I was wondering if someone has similar set of components and running into "compressing" of powder when trying the hot loads. I am working up some loads using the OCW method and I notice my last batch at 45.5 is compressing the powder. I will watch the pressure signs as I approach this load but was wondering if compressing varget was somewhat normal.

44.2 and 43.4 with 178 a-max crunch a little for me.... no pressure issues at all pushing about 2650 FPS and these are in LC brass and Winchester brass.

I believe LC cases are a bit thicker walled compared to others, so lighter loads might compress quicker.

Just keeps an eye out for pressure signs and you will be fine.

My LC72 Match brass weighs 180gr trimmed and chamfered with no primer. I've loaded 49.5gr of Varget under a 155 Scenar. 49.5gr was to the brim. I had to tamp/jostle to get it all in. Then I seated the bullet! It was fine. Stiff for sure but not excessive at 2975fps.

I run 178 grain A-MAXs out of LC cases with Varget. I think it's around 44.5 grains of powder that im running. It's compressed but I haven't seen any pressure issues.

I run 150 grain Hornady hunting bullets through a spanish fr-8 (.308 win also) and it like a case filled to the brim of Reloader 15. Can't remember the charge weight off hand.

From my limited .308 experience, I get the impression that the optimum powders will be somewhat compressed to pretty significantly compressed just due to case volume limitations.
