Hey guys what do ya'll think about my load useing this combo. My load is in Lapua brass with 42.9gn of 4064,with a 200gn hybrid giving me a case over all length of 3.090.( just in the lands max load ) Quick Load says it should be running around 2500 or so fps,now I haven't yet run it through a chrony yet, still woundering if this is what I want to run.I have a great load using a 175gn SMK running 2544 fps but my friend wanted me to try the 200gn hybrid.I 'll go on to say it shoot really well for a first try at it.My first load was at 42.5 but the 42.9 load shot best at 100,the load came in just under 1/2"( maybe better haven't measured it yet ) As of now I will be working on the load to see if I can make it shoot any better.Hope to soon take it out to 500 and see what it does for a first run at 500.If I can tune the load or if it needs to be tuned at all,I might be shooting this load at my first FT/R match. The match I might be shooting at is the one Bryan Litz will be shooting at and is a big part of.This year its starts May 31-June 2,just hope things work out for me to go.I am really jacked up for this will be my first time at a match and shooting 1000 yards.

One of my main questions is if the load now will be to hot a load for the temps in PA at the time of the match.I would have choose Varget but haven't yet been able to buy any ( I wounder why LOL ) To this is why I went with 4064,had 2 pounds to play with same lot.Or do any of you think that I might need to back down on the charge, would hate to start seeing pressure while shooting at the match.I know being new to this is already hard enough for me,but really don't want to add to this in any way.I just want to be able to go with a safe load for a first time at shooting 1000 yards.

so any kind of data you can offer will help out,for I am really hopping to be a part of a great thing to come.Again just want to be safe and able to shoot all day with out having a problem to keep me from shooting/learning.Will my load hold up or should I back off some. One more thing my load as of now is at 263 feet above sea level and the temps here have been in the 60's.

thanks,John

John, this reads like my daughter fretting about her hair.
Shoot it, look at the chrony data and case pressure, and most importantly, how it feels to you and your gun. Then start thinking....

I feel ya 100%,but it's just me and my way of going about things.Again its my first time out to 1000 with it all so being a match. My load feels great from the rifle, but don't want to get their and with it being a max load then not be able to shoot.I live in the south and the temps here are running around the mid 60's.The temps in PA will be higher and I sure don't want my load to spike while shooting.( I do not want to be that one guy ) To this is why I am asking to see who may know if my load will change to the point of having to stop in the middle of the match.I have always used Varget with no trouble, but I do not have enough to work up a load and use at the match. So will someone please help me,I am in a new area of shooting/reloading that I have never had to deal with. The range I shoot at is only 262 feet above sea level, and I know for sure the range in PA will be a lot higher.Maybe this will help my load,I don't know, again why I am asking to learn and find out.

I'll to add that shooting comes easy to me,in most cases I shoot alone or with one or two friends, but we shoot one at a time. The range I am able to shoot at will let me shoot out to 500,so I am fine with a shot out to 500.I just might get a few friends to shoot beside me while testing the load next time out. This should help or I hope it will.

Just thought of something else,I shoot prone with a little tag ( handle ) at the rear sling stud.I found that this helps me while shooting prone,I just hold onto it and push the stock into my shoulder for a better hold.Or do I have to use a rear bag for FT/R I sure hope not,for I have found this to help me a lot.I would hate to have to change something I am already used to.

thanks,John

Down South I thank for posting. So far my load isn't showing any kind of pressure, the bolt opens with no problem, and the head of the case shows now signs of pressure.I have yet found the time to see whats up with the load out to 500,but think I'll be shooting the load this weekend. So I'll report back to what the load is doing for a 500 yard test.

Yeah my friend and I both are gearing up for the match,we both are really siked to be going.
