Looking at getting the new SWFA 1-6x scope that Ill be part of the group buy. I believe it is a 30mm tube and this will be going on my 16" LWRC REPR. LaRue has a good rep for quality products so I am pretty sure I want to go with them, Im looking at spending $100-$200. What are my options? Thanks 'Hide!
*EDIT* I am open to other brands and maybe I shouldnt be so set on the price range that I typed*

Re: 30mm AR scope mount, which one?

There's a lot out there, but here's my guidance based on my own experiences and personal preferences.

Make sure it's a 0moa base. Do not run a cant on a 1-whatever scope otherwise it throws you off when you're on the bottom end of magnification.

I hate rings that clamp top and bottom rather than the sides. I want to see what my elevation setting is on a lot easier than I do my windage, so I don't run anything that blocks the elevation turret index lines from my FOV. That knocks out Larue and ADM from my selections.

QD levers are nice if you're actually going to be swapping from one optic to another, but otherwise you're better off running a screw base for strength and less parts protruding from the rifle to get hung up on your kit. Badger and Nightforce Unimounts are both nice in this category (and what I own) along with the latest offerings from Spuhr and Aadmounts of which I do not yet own but are on the to-do list. The two QD mounts I have inbound for a rifle I'm running two optics on are GDI.

Know what height you want. I prefer lower mounts (1.2"-1.3") for precision shooting and standard 1.5"ish for rapid close range engagement shooting. This is for non-PRS stocks.

Like I said, these are my own preferences and criteria. I don't go cheap when it comes to mounts, and there's a difference beyond looks or a name. YMMV.

For the price range you list

I just saw a Bobro 30mm mount for sale in the classifieds recently for around $170. LonewolfUSMC did a video review on its return to zero and it performed great. The RTZ was better than what I've seen for Larue mounts and Lonewolf's ADM mount test video.

I had one (Bobro) and didn't really like where the screws for the ring caps were located or that you needed a custom short star wrench for it but they are supposed to change that on their new mounts.

I have a 1-4x Tac30 on a 16" AR15 with a Larue SPR 1.5 and it returns to zero for me as far as I have checked it. I only use that gun for short range hunting but it retained an acceptable zero for what I use it for. It just made the hole bigger at 50 yards. That setup is mainly for stalking pigs, taking running shots and to keep in the truck almost all the time.

I also want to get in on the GB for the SS 1-6 for another AR I am working on as a longer range setup. I have an ADM Recon mount for it but I haven't tested that one myself. Lonewolf's rtz test on it didn't look so good for the ADM but a lot of people swear by their return to zero capabilties.

If you want to see the Bobro and ADM tests go to the 8541tactical website. You can also look up TheTrident82 on Youtube. He is one of the people who swears by ADM and has a lot videos shooting long range steel with ARs.

For a higher budget, like Redmanss mentioned, the Spuhr, Aaadmount and GDI all seem really nice.

I think the Badger one piece bases and the NF Unimount are only available in 20moa but I'm not 100% on that.

Seekins Precision is supposed to make a one piece mount but it will be a good while if it does come out.

ETA: Not sure if they have a 30mm 0moa. Mine is 34mm.

Re: 30mm AR scope mount, which one?

Im using the Bobro low mount on my AR and love it . its the slightly forward 30 m , Its the perfect hight for my Magpul ACS and his Customer service rocks. On and off very easy and rock solid.

Re: 30mm AR scope mount, which one?

I've been considering the Bobro for my .300BLK AAC upper using an LMT SOPMOD lower and a Vortex 1-4x24 MOA. Seems to me having a low mount that is stable and slightly cantilevered with the rings integral to the base makes sense, and I've heard good about it regarding stability. It'll allow a rear backup sight that I'll probably never use as well, but how can I resist when the URX2 has the built in flip up front sight? Oh well.

Were budget not an option, if I didn't need to scope a Grendel a little better already, then I'd opt for the Leupold .300BLK reticle Mk4 and maybe one of the more high speed mounts --or perhaps still the Bobro. It looks well made, and again, heard good about it...

Re: 30mm AR scope mount, which one?

I am in the same boat as you, op. I emailed back and forth w/Skyler @swfa and ended up placing my order for the 1-6 today right after the 5000 code was activated, and went with the slightly forward Bobro 30mm mount.

Re: 30mm AR scope mount, which one?

Have you looked into the burris pepr mount? I picked one up for the 6x45 wildcat build that me and a buddy are building. I was hestitant at first and was going to just drop the coin for a larue but after looking at the burris mounts they are very nice mounts, solid lockup on the upper and are near half the price of the larue.

If not the burris I'd look second at the adm scout mount before the larue.
