Provided I stay under the temps recommended by TBAC, how short of a barrel could I use in an AR platform? 10" or would i be better w/ a 12 or 12.5"?

Funny, I was just thinking about this subject myself as my penny jar is filling up fast for a 30 p 1. Zak, how many rounds of full velocity and/or subsonic blackout is comsidered ok for the can, and in what timeframe? Primary use will be on a bolt gun, but could I play with it on an 16 in. AR blkt for a couple mags at a time without toasting it? I know regular 223 rounds heated up the gemtch steel cans I used very fast.

I think you'd be hard pressed to generate a rate of fire that would challenge the 30P-1 using .300 Blk/Whisper/Fireball, unless you were doing many back to back mag dumps with supersonic loads.

The upper uses the MK12 MOD0 Spec parts for the most part.

The 300 BLK just happened to be released the same week that I tried to order my 300 Fireball barrel from Noveske. (October 2010)
The Fireball barrels were all gone and the 300 BLK barrels from Noveske were still in development.
I pre-ordered a barrel from Noveke and was lucky enough to receive it just before Christmas 2010.
The upper uses the MK12 MOD0 Spec parts for the most part.

It'll be easier to just buy one in a configuration you want. My upper was built using a Noveske barrel and PRI float tube. You can use any decent upper receiver and bolt carrier group.

I haven't gotten into the NVG game yet.
We live out in the country and my wife keeps wanting me to get something that she can observe the local wildlife with, but I can't get over the expense.
I'm sure that eventually there will either be a deal that I just can't pass up, or the desire to get into it will become overwhelming.
The ballistic potential of the 300 BLK is pretty sick.
Subsonic 220 SMKs have more energy at 300 yards than .45 ACP does at point blank.
It is a very capable & versatile cartridge.
As long as you understand and accept that the maximum useful range is about 300 yards and maximum extended range is about 500 yards.
Then new 300 BLK specific bullets coming out are also very promising.
The Barnes 110 Grain TAC-TX and the Barnes TTSX are some of the first to be released.

If the hand guard longer than the barrel to have that style of weapon, I heard , the suppressor gets so hot, so quickly because it traps and holds the hot gasses that you cannot even hold onto the weapon. Is it true? How much longer your hand guard than the barrel on this SBR?

Who sells the lower , and a receiver on your SBR? I can't decide where to buy one, so I will build one , it is looks cheaper. The lowest price I found in quality SBR in .300 BLK is made by PWS, for $1900
My plane is to build a 9-10" barrel pistol, and enjoy it , shoot it till I will receive the paperwork for the SBR and silencer , and when I received them just but a bit longer hand guard like yours and get an adjustable Magpul UBR , and I am done

Best bet is to backorder the items you want.
If you try to only buy in stock items, you will be very limited in your choices.
The only other option is to check daily in the for sale sections here or keep an eye out on gun broker.
As November gets closer, availability is going to become less and less.
The earlier you get in line for an item, the sooner you will get it.
Just make sure that if you do backorder an item, it is done through a reputable company.
You will be safe using sponsors and other manufactures seen on this site.
Anyone who is not "up to par" is quickly strung up / run off the site.

No problem...
I would avoid buying things in FDE though.
They will be more expensive, harder to find, and the shades seldom match.
The better choice is to get the entire gun coated FDE once it is done.
Everything will look much better that way.

I try to look around, and order it 1 by 1 . I found a barrel , but I will go a shorter one. Also I will go a shorter tube hand guard. My main "hunt" is to finish order everything for the upper, the lower can be wait. I want to build as a pistol , and will start a paperwork for the lower, so while I will wait for the SBR paperwork, I will have a gun to enjoy
I am not even sure if I want Noveske barrel, and I would like a FDE color for the lower, and the upper if possible as well, so it will be a different looking gun
No problem...
I would avoid buying things in FDE though.
They will be more expensive, harder to find, and the shades seldom match.
The better choice is to get the entire gun coated FDE once it is done.
Everything will look much better that way.

I've run 300s as short as 8 inches and as long as 16; to me, the sweet spot (best sound reduction) is about 11-12 inches. My 8" was LOUD, even with a can and shooting subsonics.

A Noveske-built upper will hold it's value pretty well, should you ever need to sell it.
And home-built 300s can take some tweaking to get the gas system and the recoil system set up to be reliable, just FYI.

5.72: I know the process of turning a rifle into an SBR, but how do you get a pistol in 300 blackout? Can you just put an 8" upper on already manufactured "pistol" lower?
