I'm shooting a Savage 110 Ba 338 L/M . I reload all my ammo using the Sierra 250 gr HPBT. All suppliers have been of these for a very long time so I bought the Berger 250 gr Hybrid tactical OTM ( not sure what that stands for ) . On the top of the box it says " 1 in 12 twist or faster " The savage is 1 in 10. MY questions are , will it hurt to load and shoot these , and if it doesn't how bad will accuracy be affected ? I only shoot out to 200 yards. Thanks in advance

In the immortal words of John Connor: "no problemo".

PS: OTM = open tip match...basically the new PC word for hollow points.

Re: .338 L/M reloads

My 110BA was a 1:9 twist, which is MUCH faster than the 1:12 the OTM bullets require, so you are good there. The 110BA was actuall designed/throated for 300 grain bullets.

Your 250 Berger OTM's will have a big jump to the rifling if you load them to fit in the magazine...mine did...and I got fliers. I ran them .010 into the lands (single fed) and got decent groups of 3/4"-1".

If you can find some Hornady 285 BTHP match bullets, you can load them to just touch the lands (magazine length), and you will be impressed with how it shoots!

1:12" TRG-42, Berger 250gr OTM/Hybrids

100 yds, but note the POI shift as the bullets are seated out longer. The last 6 groups were single fed.

I don't think that is was me, but it could have been, as I was getting to the end of the day. I don't think so, but there you have it.
