I was going to build a EDGE but my 300 RUM shoots so good I hate to tear it down(someday) I have decided on a 338 Lapua in a XLR .30" barrel .What is the preferred Action and why. I do not want a 700 action reworked .I am looking to go custom as some say the 700/Lapua is a not the best.

I am in the middle of a 338LM build now and went with a Stiller TAc338 action.

I originally wanted a Pierce, but they are not readily available down here while the Stiller is.
I know quite a few people who have built their 338's on Rem actions with no troubles and did contemplate going down that route, but a custom action and barrel is only a few hundred more than buying a Remington as a doner rifle, especially once you get it trued etc.

I've built two. The last one on a Stiller and the first on a Remington.
The Stiller was easier to say the least but the Remington did outperform all expectations. Six inch group at a mile plus.
If it were me, I would get an action designed for the cartridge. Always easier if there is one available.

Mine is on a 700 action built by GAP. It shoots great, but I think it's pushing the limits of a 700 action. Why not just get another 700 LA and build your edge.

I have had the opportunity to build a few on the Stiller Tac-338 action, and they are great. The body has a larger diameter, and the tenon is longer. In other words, it's engineered for the .338. It is very heavy duty, and built just like all of their other actions. Surgeon is another great one, but harder and more expensive for nothing really extra. I would recommend Stiller.

I like everything about my TAC338 action except the drawer knob they call a bolt handle, so i made my own. Pretty sure the defiance uses the same drawer knob so its no improvement...
