I have just got a Rem 700 Police Long Range 338 Lapua & I'm going to rebarrel it in Lapua improved.
I'm wanting to get some info on appropriate barrel length & twist.
I will be shooting 300 SMK & Bergers (when they are fixed )
I was thinking 1-10 & at least 30"+ long.
This will be a long range plinking rifle and as such I'm not worried about the weight & want to get max velocity.
I have a 338 Edge for hunting with 1-9 & 30 inch barrel, 2850 fps.
Cheers Greg.

I set my unfired rem police 700 338 lapua barrel back and ran a 40 degree 338 improved reamer in it. I am having very good results with it!

I know some computer programs show 1-9.2,3,4 or whatever is best but it seems as though the "standard" twist for SMK or Berger 300's is 1-10. If you were going to be shooting some of these solids with much higher BC's then I can see going faster than 1-10 but if you are shooting those high BC solids you'll need more than a 1-9.4

Also, for what it's worth, a 1-10 vs 1-9.4 from the same company the 1-10 will usually always shoot faster.
