338 lapua into a la 700?

Re: 338 lapua into a la 700?

thanks for the replys. i guess a better question is the remington 700 mlr in 338lm a longer action that the standard 300 win mag action. im looking to do a 338 build on a budget unfortunately i cant afford a surgeon, stiller, ie..action. who makes a mass produced action that can be made top adapt.

Re: 338 lapua into a la 700?

Same length action but builders may be doing some work to both the ejection port and the bottom of the action and feed ramp area due to the longer length of the cartidge. The bolt face has to be opened up and a different style extractor such as M16 style has to be installed. Or an aftermarket bolt such as this http://www.davidtubb.com/700_bolt.html. A Savage action could be adapted as well. Sierra used a Savage 116 for their load development of the 338 Lapua.

I have a 338LM on a factory 700 action with a kiff bolt. Or the other option is get a savage action and a .338 prefit barrel for the savage and make yourself a great little .338 edge.

By the time that you buy a donor long action and pay for some gunsmithing you will be firmly in the Stiller price range of $900 to $950, go with the purpose built action the first time for the same money.
