Hi Guys, I want to know if anyone has used the Lapua Scenar HPBT bullet for Hunting. I am getting into longe range shooting and don't really want to use two different kind of Ammo so was wondering if the Scenar HPBT bullet will work on huntring trips as well

I've used it....IMO it will work if you place your shots correctly....just like any other bullet.

I have killed several animals with the 250S with my 338L from Dall, moose to small deer....I agree with PGS....but I have to be honest not all my shots were one shot kills. That said I have switched to the 300S for the higher BC, but have only one kill on a small deer with it. Droped like a rock...but it was a well placed shot. I want to see PGS kill a big elk with that bullet and we see how it performs.

Thank you for the info, so if its a well placeD shot the Scenar will work fine if i understand it correctly. My concern is if I use a Ballestis chart for 250 scenar for target shooting I dont want to have to zero the rilfe agAin with another hunting buLlet and prepare another chart for hunting. I would appreciate if you can confirm my understanding please

I have a buddy who took 300 smk's to Africa and took multiple plains animals with them. Most shots were one shot kills. I have taken several whitetails with 300's and the kills were wicked!

I killed an 8pt with 250gr Scenar at 275 yards and the bullet did great. Shot him behing the shoulder in the ribs and it blew a 1 1/2 exit hole out, he went about 10 yard and piled up. I also have killed 2 with 300gr scenars and they did good also.

Well placed hit will likely kill fast, but I have heard sad stories hunting big game with Scenars.
Like hitting moose from side, bullet bounced inside and exit at <span style="font-style: italic">same</span> side buttock. Almost like JFK bullet, over 90 change in path.
Although it was only .30cal Scenar, but still.
I would get proper bullets- plenty of them easily available.

Printing new chart takes only a minute...and so does taking 5 shots for zero...
Well placed hit will likely kill fast, but I have heard sad stories hunting big game with Scenars.
Like hitting moose from side, bullet bounced inside and exit at <span style="font-style: italic">same</span> side buttock. Almost like JFK bullet, over 90 change in path.
Although it was only .30cal Scenar, but still.
I would get proper bullets- plenty of them easily available.

I used them on a coyote and was very unimpressed.
First shot hit neck/shoulder junction.
It kept running with no indication of a hit. Second shot (hip) dropped it. (I know, bad hit but it was full tilt at 200 yards)
I would go for shoulder shots on bigger game.
The Scenars in my case acted like FMJs.

ive done well with the .250 smk's and scenar's and i took a mule deer @ 1,350 with a hornady .250 grain match bullets got some on a trade and decided to load them up and they killed clean. as for coyotes ive literaly exploded them with the scenars and the smk's and have taken plenty of one shot kills on deer.
