I'm adding one caliber to my long distance shooting and that will be the .338 LM. I reload a lot right now for the .308 and have become familiar with and use the Redding dies which I really like.

I'm going to cry once getting all of my reloading supplies dialed in, so what is the highest precision dies I can get?

Is the Redding Competition Bushing Neck 3 Die Set the best out there, or should I consider something else?

or... and maybe a rabbit hole, should I go with an arbor press like the 21 Century hydro press and wilson dies?

Thank you

For retail dies, that's exactly what I use.

If you want to get technical about it, a custom sizing die for that particular chamber. Typically not worth it if you don't own the reamer to chamber future barrels with (not to cut the die - which wouldn't work). Otherwise you have a custom die that may be useless for a future chamber.

That makes sense... I think the arbor press might be a rabbit hole. I currently load on a Forster Co-Ax and I've been happy with the results in .308.

I've got Custom Whidden Gunworks dies being made as we speak (12-16 week wait) for my 338 LM Improved. For what they charge compared to off the shelf die it's a no brainer to me. Just have to deal with the wait time. Good Luck with you Lapua, they may not the the flavor of the week anymore, but no one ever turns down the offer to shoot it!

I’ve heard good things about those. You’ll open a can or worms asking who makes the best press, hehe. I am a big Redding/RCBS fan myself, but there are lots of good presses to be hand.

Just don’t try to load those in a Dillion and you’ll be fine. Even a Redding T7 is good if you perform the bushing mod on it.

With Redding bushing and comp seating dies on a T7, I’ve produced 338 ammo with zero runout, and shot sub .5 moa at 1k. For me, going with anything more is likely gonna be a waste of my time and dough
