Hello all, regular lurker here and have the opportunity on a great deal for a Tikka 695 in 338 Win Mag. We have a new 1500 yd range opening up near home and had been thinking about 338 LM for a while. I know the 338 WM is a great big game hunting round but what about as a long range round? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

You'll be, in heavy for caliber bullets (read high BC) from 300 to 500 FPS behind the Lapua.

I have killed a lot of animals with the 338WinMag. I have gone to the 9.3x62 to reduce the recoil impulse due to a neck injury. If your looking for an easy to shoot long range target gun, get a 6.5x284, if you want to kill big stuff at any range out past 600 yards, the 338WinMag is king. Cheap compared to the Lapua, long barrel life and plenty of accurate loads.
