Howzit,
I am precision shooter and a large game hunter.
My rig is an AI AXMC. I have been using the .308 barrel for about a year, but recently I had AIUK send me a 338LapMag. It is 27" barrel with a 1:9.35 twist. I have been shooting Hornady 285s out of Lapua brass and CCI primers. Been bouncing around on powder. I am looking to move to SMKs 300gr. I was wondering if any of u guys, maybe with a similar platform, could help me out on a good loadout. I only use Lapua brass FYI.
Thanks

Reloder 33 was designed for the .338 LM.

Nosler 300 gr CC bullets consistently a bit over 0.25 moa in my AXMC.

I found they run best 0.20 off the lands with max loads from the Nosler manual or a bit more if loading long.

Good luck.
Thanks! I have only used Nosler a few times, but never had issue with them. I appreciate the help.

From my axmc I run retumbo and h1000. Retumbo with 300 gr smks is sub moa with around 92 grains seated to the lands. Velocity is 2775 if I remember correctly without looking at my notes.

Both good powders. I have both, have not tried either, but see no reason to change from Reloder 33.

QuickLOAD tells me for the same barrel time and approximately the same pressure, Reloder 33 should produce 50 fps more than Retumbo and 100 fps more than H 1000. I am shooting the Nosler 300 gr Custom Competition using Ruag brass. At least I think it's Ruag. It's marked HP.

These are estimates obviously. YMMV.

Conclusion: All three powders are good choices for 300 gr bullets in the .338 LM. I found myself in the happy position of quarter moa groups and good velocity with my first try with Reloder 33. No need to go further.

Thanks,
Yep, I use R33 for the most part on my large rifle ammo, just seems that for some reason it doesn't mesh too well with the SMK300s and the AX. Could be the CCIs. Maybe I'll try another primer.
Appreciate the input.

My load is 300smk rl33 fed prime
I'm rolling out 100 tonight with that exact loadout. I was wavering on either CCIMags vs FedMag primers..but Since I have both, I'm gonna set 50 with the CCIs and the other half with FedMag. TOMORROW MORNING, WE ARE GONNA 10SHOTLOT...THEN REPLICATE THE SAME 10SHOTLOT.
50LAPUA BRASS/R33/CCIs/SMK300s-_-
50LAPUA BRASS/RETUMBO/FED PRIME,SMK300s.
Im thinking this should give me my answer ?

I run
Lapua brass
300 smk
Fed 215
89.5 Retumbo @2720 I think.
I have a quick question for ya Mr. Wilson. We run the same load pretty much. Assuming your platform is an AXMC, what is your OAL on those loads? Im about .20 off the lands and my OAL is 3.685. Could you also give me a base to ogive if possible as well?
I would appreciate it and thanks for your time.
