    I have been wanting a .338lm for some time now,and stumbled across this. Just so happens that I have extra ar lower in the safe that has no planned upper. So my question is this, has anyone heard anything about these .338lm upper

    Re: .338lm ar upper!

    Dave at Spider Firearms/Ferret50 has been making them for years!! The Tactilite upper are really no different. Nothing new...same advantages/disadvantages as the .50BMG uppers for the AR lower receivers.

    The t1 doesn't look too bad, however the barrel upcharges are WAY out of line IMHO. $600 for stainless? You're kidding...

    Besides, all you've now done is turn a semi-auto into a bolt gun. If it were me, i'd just build a bolt gun to start with. The Remmy MLR starts at around the same base price.

    Or, check out this animal: http://www.onlylongrange.com/badnews.asp

    I had a 50bmg upper for an ar-15 lower.piece of crap.I sold it.
    save your money get a "real" bolt gun.ive seen the remingtons sell for under $1400
    if anyone has a 338lm upper how does it shoot at a 1000yds?

    what pros/cons are you talking about ORD?

    As far as the bad news 338lm, thats just out of my budget. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the remington, I havent seen one going for that, but am glad to hear! I would perfer a "real" gun

    <span style="text-decoration: underline">Pros</span>

    1) low cost compared to complete rifles;
    2) easily constructed out of an existing AR lower;
    3) no additional FFL paperwork for "just an upper";
    4) lighter weight for ease of transport/mobility.

    <span style="text-decoration: underline">Cons</span>

    1) depending on the make/model...the quality of SOME BMG/338LM uppers is questionable at best...highly dangerous at worst;
    2) lighter weight generally equals more recoil;
    3) with few exceptions, accuracy with the BMG/338LM upper coversions is not great (but then again...most people who want serious shooters/long range precision buy/build complete rifles and don't skimp with conversions. The Ferret50 and ALS conversions are an exception to this rule as I have personally witnesses both perform exceedingly well, including the Ferret50 shoot screamers and win FCSA-sponsored competitions.;
    4) some people have reported damage to lower receiver takedown pins/pin holes when using conversion uppers.

    Those are a few quick examples off the top of my head. If you run a search (basic Google...maybe even here on the Hide), you should find plenty of data on the BMG and larger caliber AR-15 upper conversions. As others have said...hold out for a complete rifle. There have been a couple good deals here in recent months on the Remington 338LM.
