Is the Surgeon xl the only viable choice or is there another action that could be considered? Just kicking this around, maybe my next build. Of course most of the answers to this will be opinion due to numerous options available. Lets say what would be the top three choices the first one being the preferred choice.

I'm looking at doing a M2008 Badger build if I can get a stock vendor to pull their head out of their ass.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Surgeon XL, Templar, or Badger action.

I'd consider either a Surgeon XL or a Defiance. Both will serve you well.

Personally I like the integrated rail and recoil lug of the XL. My opinion is that minimizing the number of pieces is always a good idea.

There are a lot of good actions out there. I'm just finishing a 338LM build on the Rem 700. Before I started, I had a lengthy discussion with their Custom Shop, and decided to go ahead with it. I'm just finishing up th cosmetics, but it shoots great with the 700, PT&G Bolt, Krieger tight bore bbl, Badger DM
