338LM reloading dies

Re: 338LM reloading dies

You might also check out Forster Benchrest or Ultra Benchrest dies. Redding's Comp seater is a copy of the Forster seater, made after Forster's patent expired. The Forster dies are available with or without the micrometer adjustment, and both are much less expensive than the Redding Comp. Both the Benchrest and Ultra-benchrest dies have exactly the same insides (as does the Redding Comp seater), just different adjustment. The micrometer helps to make seating depth adjustments easier, but does nothing for accuracy.

Re: 338LM reloading dies

+1 for the Forster BR seater dies. When we got ahold of some early prototypes of the 110BA rifles the dies we got along with the guns were sub-par to say the least (neither Redding nor Forster), and I wasn't wild about paying what Redding charges for their 'non main stream' caliber dies, and no one had the Forster Ultra BR seaters available, so I got a regular BR seater. Basically the same thing as the Ultra but without the micrometer top. Slightly less convenient during load development, but afterwards... no big deal. And that die was less than half the $$$ of a Redding Competition die, of which I have used enough to say that there wasn't any noticeable difference in performance.

YMMV,

I'm now using the Forster Micro Seater with the Redding Body die and either the Redding Bushing Neck sizer or just the Redding Bushing FL sizing die by itself.

I've also used the Hornady New Dimension seating die with their Micro Seating stem added and that worked well for a long stretch of reloads.

I wouldn't mind getting the Redding Competition Seater, but the Forster works the same and I can put the cash elsewhere.

Re: 338LM reloading dies

I am using Redding all the way around for338LM (and 308Win). Quality seems very high. Match S decapper, neck sizer, and micrometer seating die. Would definitely buy again.

Best combo-

Lee Collet Die (they'll custom make you one for $100)
Redding Body Die
Forster Seating Die

Go measure the runout on brass prepared using that combo vs any bushing die and you'll see the collet die is where it's at.
