338NM and 285 Horn?

Re: 338NM and 285 Horn?

Spook,

Mudvayne has some threads here in ELR with some data for a 300 Berger. He might have some insight for you.

From my personal experience shooting a .338 snipetac.
I tried 300gr SMK"s, 285gr Hornady's, 275gr Rocky Mountain's, and 300gr Berger's.
The Hornady performed the worst, way off the rest. After 1450 yards it was unpredictable. I'm not here to bash Hornady, because I like thier products. But making the 250gr, and 285gr in an A-max would have made more sense to me. The 285 would be a great candidate for Bryan Litz to measure.
If it was me I would try the 250gr Hornady, take the speed over BC and give it less air time to fuck up!

Another guy to talk to would be Tom Sarver from Thunder Valley Precision, in the tactical comp forum. I think he is well versed in this area, he has helped a friend of mine on the same lines.

Re: 338NM and 285 Horn?

I run them in an Edge. Great results at 2200. They transition great and no sensitivity to jump. Although not a NM, we run 92-96 grains at 3.850 coal at almost 2960fps at 7000da. H-1000 will not be the fastest but it is the most temperature stable powder I have. Good luck.

Re: 338NM and 285 Horn?

My load for my Savage 110BA is 90.0gr Retumbo COAL of 3.700. Avg velocity was 2718. Atmo data for that day 2884 ASL Baro 27.24 absolute, Temp 64. Accuracy was good but Retumbo leaves a little soot on the necks.

My bad posted from work and did not see it was for the 338NM
