33Nosler

I am interested as well. I am building a 33 Nosler on a Pre-64 Win 70 action for long range big game and some match shooting. This round is new and does not seem to be adopted yet.

Nosler is talking shit about this cartridge. They are stating that it is 25 fps faster at the muzzle than a 338 Lapua. They are trying to impress with a 265 gr bullet at 2775. The Lapua can get around that velocity with a 300 gr, so I have no idea what they are spewing

Nosler has upset a lot of Lapua fans by posting the muzzle velocity that is higher with the less efficient 265 grain bullet (it also uses 18% less powder). I do not look at 33 Nosler as being a direct competitor to the Lapua, but the advantages of it is that it will fit into a standard length long action, will approach Lapua ballistics with a really good 275 grain hunting bullet, and has less blast and recoil. The Lapua makes a very poor choice as a hunting round. 33 Nosler is way better than 338 Win Mag, and about on par with 340 Weatherby, but once again you do not have to use a huge magnum action. Sometimes there is not a lot of justification for new rounds (224 Valkrie) but they do fill a small niche. I think 33 Nosler fits a small hunting niche.

I agree that the 33N serves a useful hunting purpose, and it sounds like we both agree that it is a couple rungs down from the Lapua on the performance ladder. I think the 33N pushing the 250 Accubond would be one hell of an elk/moose/bear hammer.

As a hunting round that is able to use a standard magnum action is probably a better choice for hunting, but for target I don't see anything gained unless you just want to try something new

The way I see it is a great hunting round that can do dual purpose in long range shoots. Not perfect, but certainly good enough.
