This ones going to be pretty detailed. I've got two to build for the trip to Africa. This is number 1 and is well on its way.

Fisherman as well...
That would be a popper on the keychain?

Hell, I wish we could have a basement here in Florida. Then I could dream about my own "space"...

Better barrel harmonics by fully bedding- rather than free-floating- the barrel?

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

There are a lot of secrets to working with Mannlichers. That one is bedded in the forend to seal it. However the barrel is done in a manner that it can move like an M1A and come back to the same point. If you bed the entire channel and just let it ride it will shoot like total crap.

Jered, is this stock from the blank Keith and I saw? I have been looking forward to seeing it completed. It sure was a nice peice of wood. Please throw up some pics when you get this one done. Enjoy the hunt in Africa!

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

Very, very nice. You have to love the looks of a well put together Mannlicher. I had a custom built Mannlicher in 35 Whelen on a Ruger 77 action that I will regret selling for the rest of my days. Stunning looking weapon, and a hell of a shooter too.

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

JJ,
Thanks for the post and updates, we see too few wood stocks these days. I hope to see these rifles leaning up against some dead critters soon. When is your safari?

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

Oh my! Nothing classier than a figured walnut full stocked 375 H&H. The wood will really pop when you get some finish on it, I'll be watching for finished pics. What bullet will you be using for your hunt?

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

No butterfly handles planned. When you are perusing dangerous game it's a wise idea to stick with what you know. We are shooting 300g Woodliegh RN soft points. I don't want to ruin the surprise too much. I'm going to try and post photos etc. on our website or our Facebook while I'm there. The connection will be slow in camp so maybe a photo a day if possible.

The scope mounts are both the same and are German claw style mounts. I will eventually get picks off everything. I'm just working so fast on them it's hard to stop and even post at times.

WOW, that is much nicer wood than I had thought. I cant wait to see them finished.

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

Honestly when you get to that many hours you start counting by the week. Each bedding job took roughly a week to complete alone.

My big animal will be a buffalo. The rest is up to chance. We have tags for everything except hippo and rhino. There aren't any hippo where we are going and the rhino is next year.

I'm going to do my best to post a photo every day or every other day on our Facebook page. We will be in a bush camp and the dial up connection will be spotty at best. I'll do what I can. If we were going to South Africa its a lot more commercialized and things are easier. Doing it from your tent takes patients when you aren't accustomed to it.

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

Beautiful work Jered! That stock and work on the muzzle/front sight area is amazing. Can I trouble you for a closeup of the rear sight and your QD rings?

Re: 375 H&H Mannlicher project

Very nice. Are the quarter rib, front sight, nose piece, and mounts your's or from outside? Also did you do the checkering?

Regardless, it is very nicely made up with exceptional visual balance. Beautiful work.

</div></div> The rifles are outstanding. I am getting ready to do a .375 build for my next Africa trip. I am assuming when you say you have tags for everything, You mean the the PH has tags. If not your trophy fee's would be out of sight. When you do the rhino are you going to dart it or kill one?
