My grand father is a shooting enthusiast and bought a winchester 38-56. The bullets are really hard to find. Does anyone know of a source to get the bullets? I know that Lee Precision takes orders for custom molds, but in the end the mold is $187.00. so we were looking for something a little easier on the wallet.
All advice is well received, but please don't treat me like a nub.

Re: .377 bullets for a 38-56????

My 1886 Winchester had a groove diameter of .3785 and a land diameter of .374 with a 1-20" twist. So common .375 bullets would barely engrave in the lands unless you loaded really hot to bump them up. I had nice accuracy with the Barnes .377 diameter 255 grain flat point. For light target loads I used 25 grains of IMR 4198 and heavy hunting loads were up to about 38-39 grains of 3031 but you better work up slowly.

I also had an RCBS mold that threw a 270 grain flat point gas check and I sized it at .379. This made the loaded ammo pretty snug in the chamber neck but it worked OK for me, it might not for you so you better check your chamber. I used 36 grains of 3031 with this one and it shot really nice.

Keep an eye on chamber neck clearance or you will blow shit up.
