Gettin my stuff inline for my .408 build and I have narrowed down my action, barrel, etc....for the most part. So now im needin to pick a scope, base, and rings. im leanin towards a NF for glass. And im unsure on what base and rings. But my biggest decision is my size on the scope for somethin around 1800 to 2000yards.. Any help?

I'm still kind of puzzled why you'd choose a .408 over a .375/408 in a new build? Regardless, NF scopes are good, but don't fall into the trap of thinking you need the highest magnification possible. For ELR shooting you should be more concerned about elevation range and often higher magnification optics have less available travel. The 5.5-22x is popular for that reason. SFP also has its advantages with ELR shooting in that you never have to worry about the reticle being too large at full magnification. And besides, milling a small steel target at 2000+ is difficult and can be fraught with error, unless you take the easy road and shoot at targets with dimensions in feet. Depending on your rifle, you'll want 40-45MOA rings/base - some have it already built in (ie EDM).

I was leanin toward the 5-22x56. With a 30 or 40moa base.

I figured if I was gonna have a .338LM, why go to a .375 and not a .408. If I take a jump, might as well jump

Re: .408 CheyTac/NightForce

Well, as explained in the Beyond 1000 Yards section, the .375 is a necked-down .408 that is ballistically superior. And right now there are far more .375 bullets available for ELR shooting than .408. For the .408, there are only a few options for bullets and the best performing one (Cheytac/Jamison/LRBT 419gr copper/nickel solid) is nearly impossible to find now. For the .375 you can shoot much cheaper 350gr SMKs for fun out to a mile. Then use solids from Cutting Edge, Lehigh, GS, etc to get out to 2800 yards, which is roughly the supersonic range of the .375 vs the .408s roughly 2250 yard range.

I'm starting to feel like I'm feeding a troll?

Take Dogtown's word for it. He's telling you strait.

IMO If you want energy go 50 BMG, want ballistics get 375CT. 408CT/419's and 338L/300 grainers are close enough in ballistics that you might as well go 338L.

Another good choice for ELR is the Vortex Razor. FFP and 36 mils of elevation travel.
