40x Inheritence

I have come by a remington 40x in .222 with a 20x Unertl scope. I believe it is a 1963 vintage (based on the Canjar trigger documentation), and seems to have all of the documentation complete. Can anyone direct me to someone who may be able to tell me more about this?

he seems to have an unending supply of 40x'ers. Most notably rimfires but It may be a place to start

I bought a used 40X in 22br, I called the remington custom shop and they told me when it was built by the SN# on the rifle.

Don in SC knows the rimfires very well as well, he might be able to tell you more about the centerfires too

Hey, are those rifle boxes or cleaning boxes. I would like to get a better picture of the whole set up. Very nice to get cool family stuff from long ago.

That is the first time i have seen another Unertle in a fitted wooden box. I had a very nice 12X (1947 manufacture IIRC) in a similar fitted box with a data plate. I sold it, but it was similar. Does yours have a data plate?

By data plate, I assume you mean scope info that is attached directly to the box (?). If so, then there is no plate that I can see.

emington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.

According to the "Blue Book of Gun Values", the coding continues as follows:

All i can tell you is the scope is worth 800+ the gun 700+. shoot it and have fun
