Gunsmithing 40x trigger problem

Okay, I'm having a problem adjusting a 40x trigger (kind with the adjustable screw that points down to lighten the pull). I can back the screw all the way out but the ball only comes out to a certain point. Mainly, the adjustment works but at the minimum setting the trigger is still stiffer than my tuned x-mark. Sear engagement and stop are adjusted fine. Any tips?
Do I need to remove the spring and shorten it? I don't really want to go that far into it but I want it as least as good as my other 700. Thanks for the help.

Is it dirty ?

I too have noticed that the pull weight gets higher after being in dusty areas for a while.

Give it a shot of lighter fluid and see if that helps.

I will try that but gun is a brand new 700p 338 lapua.

I am curious if they are indeed putting the actual connector style triggers on new rifles.... can you post a picture of the trigger outside the stock?
