I haven't reloaded .45 ACP in about 40 years, yes, I'm an old fart. Today while helping brother in law break in his new Gold Cup (shoots like a freakin rifle) I noticed the factory loads we were shooting had diferent size primers. As I stared in disbelief, I thought it was some major malfunction. The Federal Champion 230 gr RN hard ball had small primers and the Winchester white box 230 RN and the Remington 230 RN, cheap stuff had large primers. What happened in the last 40 years???!!! What do I do buy Small PP for some and Large PP for others???? Somebody SPLAIN please

I haven't actually bought any, because I choose NOT to. But they do now make SOME "match" 45 ammo that uses small primers. Everything I load is 230 grain FMJ and 850+ fps. I only carry Winchester Silvertips.

I shoot 4.9 grains of titegroup with a 230 lrn with excellent results out of a 5in barrel, using federal lpp. though i have shot a few rounds with the small primers. they never proved quite as accurate.

98 percent of the 45 acp brass I see is still large pistol primered. I would just buy the large pistol primers, and not worry about reloading the small pistol primer brass.

I came across some small primer 45 brass myself. A lot of my brass is range pickup... I too was in disbelief. I threw them into my scrap bin. I don’t need oddball 45 cases like that to stop my 550!
