Hey guys, I just wanted to make a new thread on what loads have and haven't worked for you . I'm using 230 Remington FMJ, 9.0grs of HS-6 at 880fps, winchester brass and winchester large mag primers. I have no problems with this load , other that it's a dirty powder. I'm shooting it in both my 1911 Springfield TRP and my Para Ordnance .

Re: 45 ACP reload data

I run 9.3gr of HS6 under 185gr XTP's, mixed cases, CCI 500 primers, seated to 1.200" for my RIA 1911. Surprised me how accurate they were in this gun. It's not too dirty for me

I run 6.8gr of LongShot under the 230gr pills for plinking in mixed cases. I have gone higher than that, a good bit higher with 230gr XTP's, with no pressure signs in Starline brass. Above 7.0gr in a 5" barrel, the fireball is quite impressive at night with LongShot, it's also loud as hell. A LOT louder than any load I've ever shot out of a 45 ACP

I need to buy a chrono one of these days. If anyone decides to push past 6.8gr, be very careful. LongShot spikes pressures very quick once it's near your MAX. Hodgdon data has MAX at 6.8gr.

Re: 45 ACP reload data

5.5 Titegroup w/ 185fmj - about 950fps

5.25 TG w/ 200fmj - about 900fps

4.75 TG w/ 230fmj - about 800fps

All are stupid accurate from my Glock 30 and Sig 1911. Sig shoots 1" groups at 50 yards with mixed headstamps.

Re: 45 ACP reload data

So I'm NOT the only guy that uses Unique anymore!

I'm using 5.8gr in mixed brass under 230gr Precision Delta FMJ's lit by WLP primers for (approx) 800fps. That velocity reading was taken when I was shooting Ranier plated 230's. I've since switched to the PD bullets and haven't chrono'd them to see if there was a change in velocity.

I'm sorta shocked at the HS-6 loads posted above. I made it up to 8.5gr of HS-6 pushing 230gr XTP's @ 900fps out of a 5" 1911 and the primers were TOTALLY flat. I quit using it (HS-6) because it was leaving a fair amount of unburned powder all inside the gun. I also found it to burn "dirtier" than Unique. This was at both mild velocity loads and max loads.

Re: 45 ACP reload data

Unique is a very dirty powder and doesn't always fully burn.

The IPSC standby in the 80's used to be 5.4 - 5.7 WW231 behind a 200gr SWC.

The Bullseye standby was always 3.8 Bullseye with a 200SWC

Ya know, since I've started reloading (~2007 or so), thats what everyone (without an exception that I can remember) has said. I don't know if maybe all the folks that say Unique is dirty are relating to the "old" Unique and the only Unique that I've used is the "new, cleaner burning Unique" (which came out about the time I started reloading) and it really is that much better? I don't know. Whatever the case may be, I haven't found Unique to be any dirtier than other powders. But then again the only pistol powders that I have first hand experience with are H110 (for heavy 357 loads), HS-6 and Unique (for 9x19mm & 45ACP). YMMV I guess...

Re: 45 ACP reload data

5.0 gr W231
Winchester Large Pistol Primer
Hornady 230 gr HP/XTP
COAL 1.20

Meters consistent charges through my Dillon powder measure on the 550B. Very accurate and clean burning in my HK USP Expert.

The only time I've had unburned powder with HS6 was trying to work up a load with LSWC's. Dirtiest combo I ever tried. I use it in my 9mm loads too. It seems to like the higher pressures, and cleans up pretty good when loaded near MAX.

I try to keep my handgun powders to a limited selection. I like to be able to set dwn at the press and be able to load several calibers and not have to keep swapping out the powder in the Uniflow every time I change calibers.
