i'm just wondering about several carry gun things. has anyone used a kahr pm45? concealability/controllability? i currently carry a ruger lc9 and am thinking about going to 45. but,FL in summer with shorts and a t-shirt are big issues to me. the new single stack XD looks interesting for sure. PMs are > $800 and the XDs will be MSRP at best for a year or so. i would rather depend on a 45 than a 9mm. but, would rather have a 25 on me than a 45 at home. so,ability and willingness to deal with CC issues matter a lot. not trying to start a flame post just looking for input, opinions, discussion and, especially, hands on experience. thanks.

Re: 45 CC guns

Mike,

You can carry any size hand gun concealed with a little wardrobe change. Find the handgun that fits you best in .45 and that you shoot the best. Take said weapon and go holster shopping then build your wardrobe around that. I carry a FS 1911 TRP all year. In the summer (central alabama) I wear jean shorts with belt IWB holster and a t-shirt may print a little but noone seems to notice.

I'll take it a step further. Finding a good quality (and I'm not talking anything short of Kramer/Sparks/old Alessi/Sherrick or similar) holster with a good stiff belt in a matching width is almost paramount to carry, so much so that it's just about as important as weapon selection. My personal preference is for horsehide IWB.

Re: 45 CC guns

I strongly considered a PM45, but ended up witb a G36, which is *slightly* bigger. The "beaver tail" on the PM45 dug into the web of my hand a little, plus I really liked (still do) Glocks, and LOVE my G30.

I thought I was buying my end all be all EDC. It had all makings of my perfect EDC... Glock, small, thin, 45! Turns out I almost never shoot or carry it. I like it well enough, but it just doesn't solve anything for me. There is never a time the 36 WILL work, when the 30 WON'T. Between the two, I choose the 30 for ergonomic reasons (big hands-live the fat Glock grip) and CAPACITY.

This was all before I got my PM9. I decided my "new" end all be all EDC was a pocketable singlestack 9mm. Glock doesn't make that, never will...I got the Kahr because it is very Glock like.

I've been TICKLED with my PM9. I have a pocket holster fir it, and it goes everywhere with me where WE'RE allowed to. It has truly been my EDC for over 2 years now. I'm definitely a 45/10mm guy, but the PM9 really suits me well.

Your dilemma: If you are set on a 45, then you must concede some capacity and/or concealability. If you are willing to to do that, the PM45 and G36 are a goid choice, with the Kahr winning on size, and the Glock on shootability - but the Kahr is no slouch. I've come to live the DAO Kahr trigger. Works great just not quite as quick as a Glock.

I don't care for the shootability of the 3" 1911s. They are manageable, but bark a lot more than the little plastic ones.

Just my $0.02

Certain pants I have noticed arent as good to carry in. Wrangles are great to cc with, Levis suck though. Spend money on a good holster, I like milt sparks, it is worth 10 times what you pay for a good one.

A lot of it has to do with where the loops are, how heavy the fabric is, and where they sit on your waist. In general, it's much easier to carry in jeans than it is to carry in most dress slacks, especially if your holster doesn't have loops that change out, like the Sparks VM2. Otherwise, you have to look around for appropriate belts, and there are few options for less than 1.5" loops and sturdy but narrow belts to fit. Or, you go to shoulder, pocket, or ankle carry, which is again a limiting factor.
