I want to suppress my custom full size 1911. What is the best can to shoot dry? I have heard good things about ti-rant and osprey. Any others I should look at?

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

My Sig P220 with the Osprey .45 is a great combo. Quiet and accurate, and light.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

45Osprey is a winner.

Plus, the fact I can use it on multiple calibers below 45, with a simple piston change out, sweetens the pot even more.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

You cant go wrong with either can. I love my TiRant .45 but I wasnt really a fan of the looks of the Osprey. Just my opinion though. Both great suppresors and will both suppress sub-calibers with the interchangeable pistons. If it matters to you they are both able to be broken down for cleaning.

And just for some eye candy...(Sorry for crappy pic)

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

I have a AWC that I have had on order for some time now that I am quite excited about after seeing my two others in Ti that are waiting for the OK from the ATF at my SOT. They have not updated their web site with their latest offering for this yet but look for it soon as they are shipping them now from what I hear. PG

SEXXXXXXXY! Just for the record, the Osprey is not a can that can be taken apart by the user for cleaning. For all intents and purposes, it is a sealed can. SCo can maintenance the can if need be and their customer service and turnaround are superb!

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

Holy crap - thats the best looking gun porn I have seen in a while. I plan on shooting mine with a custom fusion tact-5 full size.

That nighthawk is one bad ass looking rig...damn.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

Oh, another question....with any can....do you guys find that it makes the action dirty really fast? I cannot afford any failures....

Basically, do .45 cans make actions dirty like shooting a supppresed DI M4?

Thanks for the heads up. Didnt mean to mislead. Could have sworn it was user cleanable.

The simple answer is an astounding YES. The blowback is going to cause your firearm to get dirty fast. I like my guns like I like my women...SILENT AND DIRTY.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

Ha, now that was a great comment.

How many rounds can you get shoot up before your gun basically has carbon flying out of the action? Also, I want a can like my thunderbeast 30P-1 which never needs to be cleaning. I guess the .45 cans dont have enough pressure build up to blow all the crap out the front with every squeez of the trigger.

Next question - can you see well over your can enought to get a good front sight picture or did you have to swap out your sight?

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

Cans with booster devices can be disassembled to a point. My Ti-RANT 45 and Evo-9 both allow you to remove the booster device to clean it and also clean the blast chamber. This is a necessity, as the booster/blast chamber area will crud up and stop working before too long. Shooting the can wet will speed up the fouling process. Also, your chamber will get dirty on the host much quicker with the can and you may have FTF after a while.

Some people complain that they can't see the sights as the can blocks their sight picture. This never bothered me. My HK tactical has tall sights, and you can purchase tall aftermarket sights for just about any suitable host firearm. That said, I do not have tall sights on my Glocks or Berettas, and I can hit with them no problem with the can on.

Some people complain about my little G26 when I shoot it with the flush 10 round mags - there's no place to put their pinky. This does not bother me either. I don't shoot with my pinky. People can always find something to complain about.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

I don't think you can go wrong with either can. I have the TiRant, my G21SF went through 400 rds on its first trip to the range with the TiRant with no problems at all, and yes, definitely gets much dirtier with the can on, but you won't care will you're shooting, here's a pic of my G21SF and TiRant.

I doubt they are rated for the pressure of those rifle or near rifle pressures. Best to call AAC and check. Also, AAC bores are generally pretty tight so there will definitely not be as much margin of safety with .458 bullets as there is with .451 bullets.

Call AAC. Mike will tell you the deal.

Re: .45 full size can suggestions

I just got my TiRant 45 yesterday and ran 500 rounds through it with my Mark 23 and it is the coolest can ever. It is super quiet and more quiet once you put water in the can. It is great running dry but you can tell a difference when you put a medium in the can. Get the TiRant you will not regret it.
