I see a lot of threads about .223/.308 muzzle brakes but does anyone have any input on a .458 brake? I am building a 458 Win Mag and for the full power loads, I will want something to keep my shoulder together. The barrel is threaded 5/8x24.

thats a .450Marlin. not quite a .458 winmag but a hard enough recoil never the less, the brake tames the recoil nicely and does so on many a big bore that have them fitted. Ive heared that the African PH's don't like brakes on rifles due to the noise and I do however much prefer to use a sound suppressor myself. Maybe i'm getting soft in my old age, but some sort of recoil taming device is desirable on a hard kicking rifle.

I love the look of it but that exchange rate kills it for me. Hopefully the dollar starts doing better so I can order one without breaking the bank.

If you shoot off the bench, you will need a brake. If you shoot offhanded, no brake is needed. The 458 is not as bad as you think. It`s actually one of the lesser recoiling magnums.
