I have a box of CCI large pistol magnum primers. Was wondering if I can use these to reload 460 S&W? I know the older brass originally used pistol primers but all have switched to large rifle primers. I dont know if there is a physical size difference between large rifle and large pistol and if not, will a large pistol magnum primer be enough to light off a 460 load?

Use the large rifle primers. 460 runs higher pressures than standard pistol rounds.

If these are for plinking low velocity rounds pistol primers would probably work.

Of course id hate to prime a bunch of cases with pistol primers, forget what I used, then hotrod a case with a pistol prime. You'd likely pierce the primer and have gases cutting on the firing pin bushing and possibly your fingers. Of course gases blow out the cylinder gap but its designed for that.

Better stick with what load manual says to be on safe side.
