Just spotted this - it's a 5.11 tactical field watch with a ballistic calculator (mils, MOA). Seems kinda nice. I know all you young hepcats have Shooter on your interminable IPOD devices but for a dude that has a simple phone this might be niche.

Kinda spendy, though.

5.11 Tactical Field Watch

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

I have the field ops but up front I got a smokin bro deal. My first one worked great until moving to KY I tried to re-set the declination and the compass function went bad, stuck at 270. Called 5.11 and they sent me a new watch and a paid return shipping label, no questions other than what was the problem.

Other than watch functions, the compass is OK for shooting a bearing but I find it very hard to navigate using a map, the compass goes into sleep mode very quickly and I have to constantly wake it up by pushing the compass button. Shoot a bearing, check the map and its back to sleep.

The ballistic function so far is dead on, with use entering data gets quick. It works on mils but does not give mil clicks but not an issue.

Its rather large in profile and gets catches a lot on things.

I was thinking about getting one of these watches and went and read ALL the reviews and changed my mind.
From the things I read, not very many people were happy with them in the long run.
$35.00 to change the battery(they must change it or the warranty is void), buttons catch on everything, eats batteries, on & on.
You should read the reviews.

I've had 2 of the Ti versions and 1 of the stainless.
The work as advertised and if I had the coin I'd snag the one 700P has for sale.

The stainless weighed a ton, and I had to sell the other Ti ones....wish I kept one.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

I haven't owned one myself, but I shy away from any watch that is supposed to be tactical in design and function but is only water resistant to 30m. That is basically rain and perspiration level when it comes to watches, and not to be submerged.

I may actually consider getting one if they were to make them solar powered and WR to 100m, but not until then. My Casio Pathfinder and a dope chart taped to my butt stock do just fine for now.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

They arent' "tac" or dive watches, but they are a convenient way to have a reliable ballistics computer handy all the time, and in that role they function well.

</div></div>They're the ones that call them "tactical" in their name of the watch, not me, and I'm not asking it to be a dive watch either. I have a Citizen for that purpose, but 30m is a joke (especially for a $200 watch) and I'm sure a leading cause of a lot of failures in the past.

Also I just checked on the 5.11 website rather than the simple shopping websites I checked earlier, and the specs of the <span style="font-weight: bold">new watches they have available are WR to 100m</span>. That is absolutely more than acceptable, and is now what I consider to be in the "tactical" category. I stand corrected.

I'd still make sure I didn't get one of the older models though.

I have the watch and it does give clicks. my band broke, so I just made a para cord lanyard for it to hang on my scope or whatever else.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

I have one... hate the rubber wrist bands.. the keeper never retains the free end of the band and it always sticks out at an annoying 45 degrees slapping and catching on everything. Also, since Ive bought some of the simple ballistic calculators for my Itouch I have used the watch VERY rarely... and I have drop charts on all my rifles so really its a 3rd choice after the drop chart and the Ipod app. Currently looking for another watch..

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

My band works as advertised. I have caught it on a couple things around the house car and such and no issues.

My watch does not give how many give clicks in mils, it has 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 option but no mils. It does give come ups in mils just not how many clicks on that specific function but is that not one and the same. I quite counting clicks now that I have gone to mil mil.

I like mine but to be honest, not sure I would drop the 200 nuggets for one.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

As far as the watch being worth it.. I haven't owned another watch that stood up to the abuse this went through before the band breaking. I put it through hell offshore. Just a few of the chemical it had contact with...liquid mud, calcium bromide(had to fish it out the bucket), methanol, paraffin inhibitor, biocide, and and patriot soap. A lot of the guys here that works off shore knows exactly what those chemicals are and what they do. I would gladly purchase another one if I didn't have funds tied up in something else right now.

Re: 5.11 Field Watch with ballistic calculator!

I have had one for a few years. its worked great for me.. Mine is the newer style without the breakaway bands and it has held up and been very accurate for me. Mine will do clicks in Mils or TrueMOA or ShootersMOA. I just replaced the battery the other day.

Actually I deal with everything from well installs to killing wells. I mess with all kinds of chemicals that are used on platforms.

Here is pic of the only problem after all the abuse.

Call 5.11, you may be surprised-at worst you'll be where you are now.
