I've got a armalite AR-50A1 on its way and I'm torn between these two scopes.

Option 1: Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x56

Option 2: Nightforce NSX 8-32x56

I'm wanting to shoot anywhere from 100 yards to 1760yards. I was told by a guy at cabelas that option 2 was to much scope and i would get mirage.

Any help would be appreciated.

You will get bad mirage from both. The real difference is the amount of internal adjustment available between the two. Check the specs for both and I think you will find the 5.5 x 22 more appealing and if you have the cash then the 5-25 is even a little better.

Why the ATACR? What makes it worth $400-$500 more. I see it has a 34mm tube.

School me please I don't want to regret buying a scope.

The glass in the ATACR is leaps and bounds better than that of the NXS; trust me on this. I compared them side by side and couldn't believe how much of a difference there is. To give you an idea, it's like watching a football game on a standard CRT television set and then watching the game on a 1080p LED flat screen. The difference truly is that significant.

Option 3: Nightforce BEAST NXS 5-25x56 is the way to go. Mirage will happen no matter what scope you use! at any distance. MOAR reticle is the way to go

Seeing as the BEAST is not available that isn't really an option.

To the OP.......Why the ATACR....well ed glass for one. As KillShot stated the difference in optical quality is very noticable to those who have ever looked through an nxs. The reaction we usually get in the shop when a guy looks through the nxs then the ATACR is "wow". Second reason is to gain an extra 20moa worth of adjustment. Is it worth it? Well how much is noticeable optical quality worth to you? Only you can answer that. In my opinion, yes it's completely worth the upgrade.

Give Jay or myself a ring or drop me a pm and we'll get you straight.

just had a look at the atacr, sff not ffp? nightforce still seem a popular scope even though they are spf, why?

Because not everybody needs a FFP scope. Probably a bigger market with SFP in all reality. Most people don't even know there is a different type of focal plane or do but don't want to spend 2K plus on one so they go the cheaper, more magnification route.
