Howdy all...

I'm looking to rebarrel a Vltor VIS-3 (rifle length) upper reveiver for my AR. Looking to go with a 16" for lighter weight and easier handling afield. Chambered in .223 Wylde or 5.56 with no slower than 1:8 twist. It's going to pulling double duty with targets and coyote popping.

After looking at so many, a 16" offering from Noveske is a the top of the list right now but I'm WAY open to suggestion. Not having the tools to do the job myself, a "one stop shop" would be GREAT!

What say ye?

There are numerous options for you, but personally, I would look at the WOA barrels that ADCO offers. They have a 16" Match Carbine barrel that I use on one of my builds that is just excellent in every respect. It is a 16" SS, mid-length gas system, 1:7 twist, Wylde chambered Match carbine barrel for $275. It is about 6oz heavier than the Noveske because it is a slightly larger contour, but 6oz is minor unless you are going for as light as possible. Also, Steve and the guys at ADCO can disassemble your current complete upper, install the new barrel for you and reassmeble for around $50:

What about buying an upper? Fast, easy etc. Personally, I prefer longer barrels, more so on an AR as they hit harder and keep the noise down. I never shoot my 16" AR without suppressor in place.

Take a look at Nordic Components. They sell a Lilja Lightweight 16" midlength gas barrel for $280 (10% off with SH code) making it $252.

At that price you can afford to buy the barrel and the tools to install it and still have money left over when comparing to the noveske.

I have a Lothar Walther and has been a great tube. With 1500+ rounds through it, it still prints with it's favorite 69gr Sierras. Right around 3/4 MOA, sometimes better, and sometime I don't do my part. JPG

Re: 5.56 Barrel recommendations please?

I have had good luck with the Wilson barrels with the Wylde chambers. Tack drivers both of them. Both of my uppers that have these barrels came from rock river.

Had a friend that used to build rifles and he seem to like Walther Lothar barrels. That just about all he used.

WOA will be by far one of the best choices for the money. Noveske if you have the cash and WOA for everything else.

Woa is good stuff and adco is good people.

Re: 5.56 Barrel recommendations please?

A email has been dispatched to ADCO describing my little project. How does a 18"-20" WOA 7 twist sound for a precision minded upper?

In the mean time... I got antsy and ordered a few parts to make some other "small" changes.

I ended up buying enough parts to build another rifle!!

Oh well... Maybe Steve will write back soon and save me from my insanity.
