5 calibers everyone should own

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

I think I'd cry if I could only have 5, but

22LR for Ruger 10/22
7.62 x 39 for AK
.45 ACP for Kimber
.308 for Remigton 700
12 ga for Benelli

I just assume keep another 20 for the heck of it though.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

.22LR (how much fun with a 10/22!)
.223 (not the fastest but cheap and brill on rabbits and fox)
.303 (cos I'm British and owning an Enfield in this cal is a piece of history)
.300WM (to shoot max loads without developing a flinch!)
.44 (handgun and carbine - LBR's are still available in the UK and its fantastic to shoot this cartridge)

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

.22LR - Ruger MKII 22/45 & CZ 452
.223/5.56 - Bushy AR & M700 Bolt
9mm - SAXD9 & H&K P2000
.45acp - SA 1911 Compact & Thompson M1 Carbine
.308 - Custom GAP & M40A1
30.06 - M1 Garrand

Yep.... that's 6... shoot me! I want to include 8! LOL!! It is also killing me not to include my Winny 94AE 30.30 lever action & Mossberg 500 12 gauge pumper (guess I would sub it (the scatter gun) for the Garrand)!

If I can't get it done with those it's because I'm already dead....

You don't own one of the 5 calibers you think everyone should own?

Correct. I obviously think that I should own one, but alas I currently do not own one. With any luck the situation will soon be rectified.

But I also don't think that owning one was a requirement of this thread....... Just saying....

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

This is my breakdown.

1. 5.56mm (AR platform for zombies)
2. 308Win (bolt gun for zombies in the distance)
3. 7mmRM (for piling up some venison)
4. 45ACP (full size pistol, comp shooting)
5. 40S&W (CCW)

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

Well, since you specifically stated "calibers" I'd have to cheat:
.22 - .22LR, 5.56, .22-250
.30 - .308, .30-30, .300RUM
.357 - .38SPL, .357Mag
.45 - .45ACP, .45 Colt, .45-70
.729 - 12 gauge

Sure, it's not required, but it seems akin to you trying to convert me to veganism over dinner at Morton's.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

22LR - price and versatility
223- varmint and AR
300 win mag - all most all big game and sniper
45 acp - pistol
12 guage - bird, turkey, slug, tactical

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

I think I will have to agree with most of yall. Ill take the common military calibers, so that way it always available when SHTF.

.22 lr.
.45
.308
.223
12 guage

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

it's been said before but SHTF situation (or just a small zombie ressurcetion) you need popular calibers so ammo is avail.
223 (5.56)
308 (7.62)
45acp
9mm
12ga

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

I'd get by with:

.22LR Pistol(s) & Rifle(s) (plinkers)
.40 S&W (home defense)
.223 (plinker)
6.5x.284 (long range target rifle)
.30-06 (hunting)

22lr - so much fun, so efficient, so accurate
6BR - maybe the best in any application/situation, AR, bolt, varmint, competition, tactical and strategic, you name it
308 - the range of bullet weight is wide, quite wide, not to forget, you can use it for anything(it was hard to omit 30-06, it really was)
9x19 - 124gr.+ hollowpoints = I can't argue with.
50BMG - you can run, hell, you can drive, but ain't gonna help you
In the process of being objective, I had to exclude my personal favorites: 223, 7mm Mauser and 45 Colt.

45 ACP
22 long rifle
300 win mag
12 gauge
and of course

Ok then let me explain, I have owned one in the past {USP 40c}, sold it to finance another gun {MK23}, Plan on getting another one {usp 40 match clone} when I get together some spare cash. Loved the gun and the caliber. OK??

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

Rifle calibers: .223,.243,.308,338LM,50BMG

They is a saying-beware of the man with only one rifle. Respect the man that can utilize all these tools with precison.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

Anyone have kudos for the 243 WSSM? Just wondering if it should be considered as a candidate for the top 5.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

I'd have to have six Must Have calibers. Five won't cut it.
laugh.gif

A .22LR (Everybody needs one a' those)

A pistol in 9mm, 45ACP, or .40S&W (I chose .40S&W for all my Glocks)

A semi-auto rifle in .223, .308, or 7.62x39 (All my carbines are x39 cause I can buy it cheap and stack it deep)

A mid-range tactical/hunting rifle (.308 bolt gun for me for the obvious reasons)

A long range/magnum caliber tactical/hunting rig (I chose 7mm Rem Mag but the 300WSM kicks much ass, too, without the recoil of the 300WM or 338WM/338Lapua)

A shotgun (I have 12ga pumps for power and reliability)

It's interesting that a large percentage of replies list a similar spread. The only other thing I could add would be something just for the fun factor: I'd love to have a .357 or 45 Long Colt lever gun with a matching SAA pistol.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

Anyone that didnt include .45ACP should automatically be banned for a year.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

22 LR because its cheap
45 ACP because it can be found most places and it will do the job
300 WM because it will do the long range stuff and can be found most places
375 H&H because it will kill any thing and can be found any were its needed
12 GA its not a caliber but it can be found every were and it will do what you need a shotgun for

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

I think you may be taking this a little too seriously.

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

.22 LR because if you need to put meat on the table with out a lot of noise

.223 ar

300 wm because it a shooter and is proven

40s$w

408 cheytac why not?

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

22 LR, same for lots of ammo
45 ACP, 1911, shooting twice is silly
5.56 mm, lots of ammo around + parts
308 M1ANM, semi, mag fed, dependable
300WM bolt, distance

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

22LR
233 Rem (5.56 or Wylde chamber)
308 Win
40 S+W (maybe a 9 or 45 but decent compromise)
12 Gauge

Re: 5 calibers everyone should own

1. AR-10/DPMS/Springfield Armory M1A (1000 yd hunt/tactical)

2. 338 (Win Mag/Rem Ultra Mag/Lapua Mag) (+1500 yd hunt/tactical)

3. 45ACP Pistol (1911/Sig P220/HK USP) (one shot gets it done)

4. 12 Guage (Pump or Semi-Auto) (all purpose hunting / CQB)

5. 22LR semi-auto (quiet hunting & short range sniping)

this.... add 9mm and make it 6. ( four rifle and two pistol )

Shotguns come in gauges.

22lr, well that's a given
223 rem. all around small game and shtf gun.
308 win. good all around ... best, most available, more loading data for this round than anything ever and, it's a military loading.
300wm.... well, it will knock down anything on the continent and, it's my long range long gun.
45 acp... it's been around for 100yrs and, it's still here and as popular as ever.
9mm because it's a potent little round that is truly capable and, the military uses it too.

Those would be mine.
