Hey guys, I will be needing to re-steel my range. I am looking for some 50BMG plates. I googled the plates and found quite a few sites that can accommodate. Do we get a Snipers Hide discount anywhere for steel?

I didnt know anywhere else to post this so sorry if its in the wrong section

Why not call Brady's foundation or Evertown and ask if I join your org. can I get a discount on steel targets for my fifty caliber rifle . Might make a few heads explode .

I think the angle of impact helps. We have indoor ranges here that are 25 yards rated for 50 bmg non-AP rounds. Impact guns is one. A few years ago they redid their range. They had the old back stop metal cut into targets and sold them. I picked up a full size silhouette it is 3/8" thick. That target has been beat to hell with not even a scratch. Only 2 lanes are rated for the 50 so maybe they are 1/2".

Did I see two ricochets that almost killer him? Dude needs to backup

Yeah I heard them too, he is about 200yds from his target, I'm thinking 500 would have been better, YT is full of people doing that with .50 Cals, If that squashed bullet comes back and hits someone it will rip em apart, they are bad enough when they leave the Barrel when they are in perfect condition.

There is no fucking way that was 200 yards. Luck if it was 75. An 8 inch plate at 200 is no where near that easy to see with the naked eye. Guy is a total fucking idiot.

Either way I think he is nuts shooting that close to a hard target, Having seen what they can do to brick and block walls it's only a matter of time before he ends up in ER if he is lucky enough to survive.

Not sure but it needs to be thicker than a 1/2". There USED to be a steel dealer in Portland that sold armor plate and they sold more than just AR500 too. Specialized armor will cost more though.

You'll find you want to get that steel cut somewhere close if you can.

For .50, I like milk jugs or some other disposable target. Even if you do get tough enough steel to stand up, it'll still break down sooner.

I don't know much about commercially available .50, but who wants to shoot AP or HEAP at nice AR500 targets? He was shooting rounds to TRY and cut through it. I know reman FMJ is probably the cheapest, but there are .50BMG target bullets that are jacketed that I would think would blow up on 1/2 AR500 without leaving even the slightest divot...just like .338 target bullets do... I'd be a little more concerned about a ball/FMJ or even non-steel monolithic bullets, but even then I doubt a brass mono would cut through AR500.

You can't expect penetrator or explosive rounds to tell you much for practical application.

I think the important thing for .50BMG (assuming your not TRYING to blow it up) is that your plates are mounted very securely and are large enough that they have some inertia to stay mounted. Shooting small AR500 targets with such a massive bullet it going to tax any mounting system beyond what's reasonable.

Mounting them to a swinging stand helps mitigate the impact energy.

I wont be shooting any 50bmg at 100yds or less. I will use paper to zero and most probably place my plates at 300 out to 1500. Im sure the AR500 will be fine from 400 and further. I just have no idea from 300 and closer
