think i have finally figured out a scope to get. bushnell 2.5-16. my question is 42 vs 50mm objective. i lean towards 50mm due to better exit pupil and maybe better quality image at top end. that will mount scope higher,a bit,of course. i think the DOA reticle would be perfect for my needs. so,of course,it is not offered in 2.5-16x50;just 42mm and 4.5-30x50. my choice is thus best retical with less exit pupil or opposite. mil dot retical would work for my needs if needed. thanks.

Aperture rules with almost any magnifying device. Camera lenses, astronomical telescopes, spotting scopes, binoculars and rifle scopes.

light gathering power and ability to resolve small detail is directly related to the diameter (or aperture)

yes, vortex was an option. i know it is opinion, but i am hearing that the bushnell glass clarity is a bit superior to vortex. i have never compared side by side and would never be able to,nobody around here stocks any expensive scopes. and yes,in my world,$500-1200 IS expensive! glass clarity is my #1 priority and am judging that solely on internet concencus. maybe not so smart,but... actually the weaver i have and don't need (3-10x40 tactical) is very clear but their tacticals are just too heavy by about 4-6 oz. also, don't need/want FFP.
