556 and 223 loads

5.56 isa slightly roomier chamber with a longer freebore generally, not roomier than a sloppy 223 chamber though. Generally speaking yes. Just dont go shove a 77gr 5.56 round into a short throat 223 chamber absentmindedly.

Who can tell me the difference between loading 223 and 556? Some say they are the same, and some not. I think i can load both the same.
As far as the brass goes they are not the same, there is 223 Remington commercial brass & 5.56 Lake City NATO brass . Accurate Arms site has load data for 223 Remington & 5.56 NATO pressures .

Sure different manufactures have different case results (just like with literally everything) but the brass has no different spec.

The difference is a chamber, not the brass.

I bought 1k range brass. Mixed, nato and rem. Trimed too 1750 and 1740. Whatever worked! Going too load all with benckmark 23.7 gr. I'm using small pistol primers. Thats all i have. Don't have a problem with them. 55gr. Copper plate in ar15 diamond back. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

If using pistol primers, I would load just a small amount to start, (20-30 rounds) and try out. Watch for slam fires in the AR. Would hate to see a guy load up 1000 rounds then have issues and have to pull it all, due to some un expected issues..

I’ve found difference in the internal capacity of commercial brass and military brass, the outside dimensions are the same. In testing the two types of brass with W748 the commercial holds more grains of W748 than the Military NATO brass.
