Will 5mm (0.197 inches) AR 400 steel be ok from distances of 600m and out for 6.5x47L shooting 140 RDF, JBM tells me at 600 it will be travelling at 1903 fps with 1124 ft lbs of energy?

Would be rated about 300 ft lbs maximum at the target so not going to hold up. Even 1/4" AR500 is only rated for 700 ft lbs.

I had some ar400 or 450 that I tested with my 6.5 creed and it shattered it at 400 yards. It survived pistol rounds though

Damn that sucks thought it would hold up better than that

I heard AR400 is more suited for pistol shooting.

I only have one AR target and it is AR400. I have shot at it with 6.5CM from as close as 200 yards all the way out to 1000 yards and nothing has happened to it. However, mine is 3/8 thick so definitely a lot more meat to it than a 5mm plate. It has some very minor cratering but that's from 55 grain 5.56 at 100 yards.

Your 140gr bullet will turn that thickness of AR 400 into a platter, if you are a great shot, it will be a soup bowl. 3/8" AR 400 at 600 yards and out should present no problems though. If you are disciplined enough not to bring it closer, lol

AR500/AR550 in 1/2, 5/8, or thicker, is your friend. Costly but worth it. (Only cut it with a water jet. And don't weld anything to it because the heat will ruin the temper)

I have a scrap plate of 1/4" AR400 and it starts to bow with several hits from my 260/6.5 Creedmoor inside of 600 yards. Make a great target for longer range as it really rings and is 15" x 20" or so. I flip it around when I see it starting to bend.
