Thinking about buying a 6.5 br barrel for my next build from ar performance. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this in an ar chassis sizing sounds easy with the right dies from Sinclair but I would like to get some opinions on this cartridge before I decide to tackle this project. Mainly I want to know if the more complicated sizing procedure is worth the gains in performance over the standard Grendel/264 lbc. The rifle will be used for hunting white tail and target shooting, so the advertised 200 fps gain would be nice to have.

Re: 6.5 br upper

I think Harrison has a couple of 6.5 BR barrels left and I think 6 BRs with his bolts and barrel extensions. I don't think he plans to make any more though. I know he was offering the 6mm BRX which might be something you want to consider. He's been getting close 3000 fps from a 22 inch barrel using the 105 gr Berger, which is not too far off 243 velocities.

The other company that is making 6mm BRX AR15s is BR Armament Technolgies ( http://www.bratrifles.com/) . Unlike Harrison, who makes his own proprietary bolts and barrel extension these guys use Oly's WSSM bolts and extensions.

Re: 6.5 br upper

Yeah he still has a few left and would like to stick with ar performances barrel because I can put it in a upper reciever of my choice unlike the ossm route. I considered the 6 br but the 6.5 I think would be a better choice because of hunting, white tails can get big up here and a little more energy I think would be nice. Ar performance said he will still make the bolts and extensions but I would have to get someone else to chamber a replacement barrel which shouldn't be to hard to do

Powder capacity. The BR holds more powder than the Grendel, and the BRX holds even more.
