Why is it 140 is the limit for 6.5 bullets. 160 if you go rn but that is not what I want for long range. If somebody made a 6.5- 180 -spiretip- - bt .The larger cased 6.5 would rule (6.5 SAUM) drop this in a LA so you have room for the OAL . All copper even better plenty of room for a long for weight projectile and a BC./SD. that would be unbeatable.A partition version for hunting /plenty of room Varmint up front /solid in the rear

I think a 180gr 6.5mm bullet is better known as a flachette.

Custom bullet expense for -what- gain over readily available 7mm bullets?

if you want a 6.5 that heavy, might as well go with a 7MM.

Why say why .Say why not. The 6.5 vs 7 debate is another matter if you look the 7 heavy vs the 30 heavy the BC of the 7 makes it the winner.If a Manufacture would make a 6.5 heavy I think it would surpass both the 7 or the 30 All with less recoil .The 6.5 SD is great so why not.

Guy is running a G1 of .700 out to 1300+ from a 1-8" nonetheless.

I've got about a half box here that i'm playing with in my 65WSM. Looks like N570 will get me a little over 3100fps

Down sides:

1- Somewhat hard to get.
2- On game performance due to jacket thickness/design.

say don't need it, I shoot 142 at 2850 FPS and reach 1500 yds pretty easy, if I need more I'll grab the 338 edge.

Without taking the time to run the calculation because I'm lazy, I doubt a rifle with a conventional twist rate is going to run a VLD type 180 grain 6.5. Seems like you would need a ~4 to 6 twist.

The bigger cased 6.5 would be able to shoot heavy bullets .I know a lot of older 6.5 offerings shot 160 round nose. The SAUM and WSM should be able to shoot a bullet over 140 If somebody would run the numbers that would be great,

At 1500 how much energy do you still have with 140 gr bullets?I like a heavy bullet at range do to retained energy. I think 140 is selling the 6.5 short the Grendel with its tiny case will get you there but a SAUM will get a larger bullet there with energy.A 338 would be better at that range so would a 416. The question is can we make the 6.5 better at that range.

When I decided to work up a subsonic load for my Swede, I compared a few bullet lengths. I put a 160 RN up next to a 123 Amax. They are the same length. A 160 grain bullet with the same profile as an Amax would be a LONG bullet.

I like the idea and applaud you for thinking out of the box. I think it would be a great idea. The only problem is the overbore to get those heavy bullets up to speed would limit barrel life.

You would need a good bit of capacity, small bore + very fast twist + long bullets mean alot of pressure and restricts speeds. There is a reason when going after more performance than say a 6.5/06 or 264 WM, one goes to a larger bore, often slower twist. Bore life would suck if you try going much larger in capacity. There IS a point of diminishing returns IMHO as you increase bullet weight. For what I do, not much cannot be done w a good 123-130, 140-142s just do it further, anymore needed than that, I am going way up the ladder.
