Anyone here have experience with the 140 Berger Hybrids in 6.5 creedmoor? I have a custom Brux 1:8 27'' barrel that I began shooting 140 elms in and they shot great loaded roughly .040 off the lands. I wanted to try some berger bullets as I have shot a ton of 105s in my Dasher and had great results. My freebore in my 6.5 is a .190 if i remember correctly and typically when I start loading I like to be in the 20-30 thou off the lands to begin. With the design of the 140 hybrid I cant get anywhere near that to make it fit in my magazines. I think I am around the 100 thou range currently and they shoot "ok" but there is a noticeable differencebetween them and my eldms. I am curious what I should try to get them to shoot a little better. My current load is the following:

Alpha 6.5 creed LRP brass
h4350 40 grains
federal gmm primer
All loaded with premium equipment

I noticed some gunsmiths offer a .150 freebore and I think this is for the hybrid design. I understand hybrids arent jump sensitive but in my experience so far the closer I can start to the lands the better my rifles seem to shoot in most cases.

Yeah, brand new barrel w SAAMI chamber and closest I could get to lands and stay in mag length (w binder plate) was right at about .070-.080”.

Preferred barrel has test data wrt different freebore length and different ammo (read bullets, if you will). Not sure how valid is their test methodology but I recently had a Bartlein blank spun as prefit for a CDG by @FisherT&C with his .150 freebore reamer.

It’s not been shot yet but I’m certainly going to give it a go. I have room to seat deeper if I need more jump than the approx .020 .030 at max mag length so I didn’t see a downside (corrected this as SAAMI freebore is .199" and I was at about .070" off lands with that....with .150" freebore, I should be .050" closer so .020-.030" min jump while staying in mag length)

I'm shooting Berger 140g target hybrids and my COAL is 2.87 if I remember correctly, just started reloading about a month ago. Fits in my magazines but not much room to spare. I believe I am about .070=.080 off the lands also but don't have the info in front of me. I have found they shoot about the exact same every depth I have seated which is supposed to be a benefit of the hybrids. I am really happy with the hybrid bullets so far.

That’s not supposed to be the benefit of the hybrids. The benefit is that once you find the optimum coal you don’t have to mess with it as the rifling erodes away.
