When Zak Smith did his testing of the 260 remington, 6.5mm Lapua, and 6.5mm creedmoor all the rifles seemed to have 26" bbls. My question is would a 20" bbl be long enough to get this bullet out to 1000 yds and still have a decent amount of energy, or would I need to have a tight-bore to achieve this?

Thanks.

Yes I am actually! What length and twist rate are you going with?

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor barrel length question.

I've dropped LaRues at 994 with my 20" POF 6.5Creedmoor (Rock Creek cut rifled 5R) using 140 Amax's, and have gone to 1K more than once. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end, and you can do the math with any ballistics calculator for what the energy was. 2650 fps muzzle velocity.
Haven't tried any thin skinned upright game animals though.....
