Hello im new to the forum and am looking for some guys to "buddy" up with that has some experience with this cartridge. I have been trying to come up with a load for my dpms 6.5 and as you all know there are some things thats hard to find such as brass, load data, ammo, ect...... I have been playing around with seirra 140hpbt and h4350 but havent found anything im happy with. The last time out I blew some primers(cci benchrerst, win) out and jammed my gun so i dumped them all. It was the third reload on the brass. I re-sized some 260 brass I had laying around and it "looked" like it turned out(after trimming alot :)). I measured the body and neck but dont have a good way to check the shoulder. I havent tried any of it due to my lack of experience with that type stuff. The only thing I did was run it through the re-sizer and trim????
the stuff I have to work with is 140 hpbt, 140 Amax and h4350, varget, 748, and xbr8xxx? (but could always buy more of whatever :)) If anyone has any thoughts or input im open for suggestions (I know what works for you might (probably) wont work for me) But still nice to get others input.

Thanks,
Travis

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

Thanks for the reply, I need to come up with a way to turn my necks down. I currently do not have anything to do this with. You might be able to answer another question. Some load data I printed off from Hodgdon website states that with h4350/140Amax max charge is 40.0, Honady's factory 140's are printed at 41.9 How or why is this?

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

I really don't know but my guess is that it's too new of a cartridge and they are being conservative. I've been up to 43 grains and so have some others.

If you look at the 142 data the max is 41.5gr of H4350, kind of odd in the difference.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

I am blowing out primmers bad with 41.9 h4350 and 140 amax coal 2.80.... I'm going to have to go see my gun guy. I'm lost with this

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

Yea I'd get it checked out. The factory 140 loads I pulled and weighed at 140.5 gr of H4350.

Do you have a head space guage to check how far the shoulder is on a fired case? Seeing how far back you set the shoulder on your die is where I would start. I bump it back .002"

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

I emailed dpms and they seem to think it's a head space issue. I'm going to take it to my gun guy tomorrow and let him look at it before i send it back to them. I'm afraid the turn around will be longer than I want to wait through dpms.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

The older lots of 140 AMAX were loaded with and marked 41.9grns on the box. The newer ones are 41.5grns.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

I went to my gun guy and he checked everything out. The problem seems to be over pressure. I guess my gun has a tight bore or my batch of h4350 might be a Little hotter. I need to check the fps and he said he is sure I'm way over pressure. There was no problem with head space or anything like like.....I did leave it there so he could thread and re crown the barrel tho

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

Box load works great. 41.5grns of H4350 and the 140 AMAX. It's a good starting point but if your rifle is blowing primers with the factory load I would look at a rifle issue as the pressure in that factory load isn't high.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor HELP

Even 41.9grns, which was what the original lots were, is still not high pressure and should not give any problems in any rifle.
