I have seen recommendations for both large and small rifle primers... which is confusing.... what is the real skinny on this? and while at it, do you guys seal the primers after you have the cartridge charged?
The primers recommendations are based on which primer the case requires. Just pick one and run, trying to find a real difference between the two is like picking fly shit out of pepper. No, dont bother sealing primers unless you just like making a mess of things for the heck of it.
Answering a question not specifically asked: Popular long-range/competition calibers standardized with large primers are offered with small primers by some vendors because the small-primer brass's pockets stay tight for more reloading cycles.
Never heard of sealing primers and I've been reloading since the 1960s....
As mentioned earlier pick whatever primer you have brass for; if you have your choice of components then pick whatever primer size you already have the components for. If you really need more information, this article basically lays it out a bit more: Small Rifle Primer vs. Large Rifle
