6.5 Creedmoore Brass?

Re: 6.5 Creedmoore Brass?

I don't own a creedmoor but I wonder if you could just make it out of 6.5 x 47 lapua or 6 XC norma. The 6 XC is just a little longer than the 6.5 x 47 lapua but its easy to neck down the lapua and fireform it. The neck ends up a little short but it shoots fine. It looks like you could just neck up the norma brass and shoot it. You can also make 6 XC out of 22/250 brass and the neck ends up a little short. I don't know why this would not work with the creedmoor. 6 XC brass from SSS is a bargain.

I wouldn't worry about Hornady 6.5 CM brass. I have a lot of it and it has served me well even under some pretty hot loads.
But, the more you guys shy away the better it is for us who shoot the 6.5 CM to get brass.

No... you can fire-form 6.5 CM brass from Lapua .22-250 cases using COW method easily enough. Finished cases will have a shorter neck than factory 6.5 CM brass, but it really shouldn't make much difference. Then you have nice Lapua brass with tight Lapua primer pockets... how much difference it'll actually make on target is up for debate.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoore Brass?

The pressures that factory 6.5 CM runs at promote long brass life. The box published load shoots really well in a lot of rifles and is about 53.5ksi for the standard published chamber.

At this point I see no reason to go through the hoops of forming brass unless you can't find it at all. The Hornady stuff for me is shooting great. The first rounds I put through my rifle were just the 140 Amax loads published on the back of the box, they were shooting sub 1/2 MOA at 600yd. With a little tuning the rifle is shooting even better, the only brass prep I did was to run the cases through the case mouth chamfer, and load them up.
