for starters let me apologize if this thread is already out there, I did a search and didn't pull anything out. I'm Building a rifle that I'm hoping to use in a few semi local precision rifle series but mostly will be used for target shooting at ranges up to 7 800 yd. I know the creedmoor is well established and cheaper but am I gaining enough making the jump to the PRC. I do also plan on doing some hand loading

You mean CreedmOOR? If your shooting 1000yds or less, stick with the CM. Tons of options out there.
The PRC is amazing, but surprisingly not a ton of support for it yet. It’s a caliber designed for 1500+ and does very well at that range.

As a PRS chambering, I don’t see enough advantage with the PRC, but I see lots of disadvantages, i.e. increased recoil and concussion/muzzle blast, decreased barrel life, etc... In a hunting rig, there are too many alternatives with either significant performance increases, or better shoot-ability and/or load tune-ability.

If you want to try hand loading reloader 26 and a 147 eld will get you close in velocity to the prc. And for the shorter distance targets you can just shoot factory ammo win win imo

With 46.4gr of RL26 under a 147 ELD-M in the 6.5 CM out of a 22” bbl I get avg. 2814 fps.

With 55.8gr of RL26 under a 147 ELD-M in the 6.5 PRC out of a 24” bbl I get avg. 3020 fps.

thanks for the quick replies, and the link. CM sounds right. I am also building a 300 PRC but it will not be ready for probably another 6 months or more. that might have been what was pushing my 6.5 PRC thoughts

If you get the CM now, you might try the PRC down the line.

I have a Ruger RPR 6.5CM now, and I also have an MPA 6.5 PRC coming to me.

What impressed me about the PRC is it’s increased ballistic ability. From the articles and charts I poured over, going from 6.5CM to 6.5 PRC was like going from 308 to 6.5CM. That’s another big jump in ballistics-the PRC Has significantly less billet drop and windage than the Creedmoor. That is saying a lot IMO.

HORNADY, Berger, and I think Barnes make 6.5 PRC rounds in a variety of weights. See CopperCreekAmmo.com or here is a direct link to the 6.5 PRC section:

They also sells die sets for PRC
