6.5 GAP 4s vs 6.5/300 Saum Please educate me if there is any difference

Probably some minor dimensions variations including freebore but as long as you like the freebore on the available reamer and the rest of the dimensions are feasible go for it.

no turn neck is usually .295+ and .080 to .140 for freebore depending on bullet profile and weight.

I believe the difference is Freebore.
Gap is like 90 or so.
Mine is 120 which is about right for the 153.5, but I run in a long action.

The only difference between the two is the length of the brass. The 4S is based on the 7mm SAUM so the brass is .020” longer. Freebore length comes from that dimension so the chambers will be different even if the freebore is the same.

I think you’re referring to the 7WSM over the 6.5 and 300WSM

@Steel head Yep, a 6.5 SAUM is a necked down 7mm SAUM. A 6.5/300 SAUM will have brass (and a chamber) that is .020” shorter than a 6.5 4S or 6.5 SAUM. They are dimensionally exactly the same except for that. You would have to determine if you need to trim 7mm SAUM to use it, and if so, how much.

To try and run a 6.5 with a 300 case length you’d have a very short neck because the base to beginning of shoulder is the same on all three, they just shortened the 300 so it wouldn’t have a super long neck.

But I’d all you had was 300 brass that’s what your going to get and I’d avoid that route.

OP just look at the 6.5/300 reamer print and see what case length it’s going to cut.
