Looking to convert my 16” 223 wylde (BA Hanson) to 6.5 Grendel. I like BA barrels but hoping to get some other suggestions too.

I would like to stay with a 16” and keep it approx the same weight as the rifle is carried around the mountains hunting.

Looking at:

BA premium fluted series
Wilson combat recon
Odin works ultra lite
Alexander Arms fluted
Faxon Gunner

any other suggestions?

Check out X-Caliber barrels. Well priced and reportedly precise, lots of custom options available.

I'm assuming it's for an AR platform.

thanks for the heads up. I will look into them. It is for an AR

This is what I got from midway's stoner barrel.

Was just under 1 moa with hornady 123 sst and was happy until I looked at brass.

Deep cuts.

Like a razor.

It's the feed ramp on the barrel extension going to try and smooth it without disassembly.

That is really a builder fix. Most barrel extensions are made by the same 3-4 companies and they are all sharp. Some scratches on the necks and shoulders happen when the ejector pushes the case to the right so they flip out of the port door. Take a dremel with a 3/16" chainsaw sharpening stone and run between the extension lugs at 2:00 when you do the ones at the bottom.

Tbox barrels are typically regarded as one of the best for grendels. I've got a 20" odin that is alright. Just a hair under moa. I have a 12.7 barrel from Atherisrifleco that is extremely accurate.

I would get a Satern.. I have a 16" Grendel Satern and it shoots so good it is wild. Like under 1/2 moa and I think I paid just over 400 for it with a bolt.

I’m assuming you got the cut rifled one?

It appears they have the liberty satern version that’s 16” nitrided and fluted on sale for $330 with a bolt. I’ve seen mixed reviews from my limited research.

It seems that having a nitride finish would help if I’m using the wolf steel as plinking/practice ammo. Only the ARP, Satern/Liberty and Faxon have that option as far as the “lower tier” options go

For the win...16” Satern cut rifled barrels. I have Lilja, JP, AA, Bartlein, Wilson Combat and two cut rifled Saterns-20/24” to compare, and the Saterns, though slightly short throated, shoot as equal or better than all of them, and they all shoot very well. Can’t speak to the 16” specifically, but you can get a good, cut rifled 16” barrel from them, if that’s your choice.
