6.5 PRC build

So I'm looking at building a 6.5 PRC, but was curious since I'm new to this cartridge. Is it intended for a short action or long? I've seen both recommended, so I'm a bit confused as to what is ideal. I was under the assumption that it was a short action cartridge, but magnum bolt face. Is this not correct?

I was thinking of building if a medium but wanted dbm and defiance is still several months out in theirs. The hornady factory rounds are at 2.945" oal which push the limits of most sa mags especially if you want to run some 150 class projectiles in the future.
