6.5 PRC with proof research carbon barrel

I was looking into this a few months ago and found that Bighorn's tenon tpi is different than other Remington clones, which is why Proof put Bighorn in their own category. Bighorn is 16 tpi and Remington is 18 tpi, or maybe vice versa; the point is that they are different; that's as much as I know.

I'm sure the Proof guys can help you, and so can the action makers, but be sure to do your homework.

You can do an origin with the lug that allows tl3 prefits. You could also get an American Rifle Company action and have a spacer made (1.20" OD, 1.065" ID, .115" thick, IIRC) at the local machine/gunsmith shop to set headspace in the right place.

So in the short action you can take full advantage of seating the bullet out and have no magazine issues in a short action? I have been reading this is a problem with it in a short action.

I asked Zermatt about 6.5 PRC short vs long a couple months ago . . .

" Doug,

We do only have short and long actions available, no in-between. The PRC will work with a short action if you limit your COAL to 2.980". If you wish to load longer than that, it will need to be out of a long action. My advice is always to go the route of the short action and limit the length you load out to. If that isn't an option for you, it will need to go in a long action.

Either option will work, but the short action has shown to be the most successful between the two options.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you,

I also asked Proof about Bighorn pre-fit . . .

"Hi Doug,

You are correct that the Bighorn is a Remington 700 clone. However, one of the reasons that we do not offer a Remington 700 pre-fit is that they simply do not hold a tight enough tolerance to build to an exact spec. Certain action manufacturers out there do design a Remington 700 style action that hold an exact spec/tight enough tolerance for us to build a pre-fit barrel around. For a Remington 700 we have our bolt action barrel blanks available. These are a blank and will require a gunsmith to thread, chamber, and fit to your action.
