Range Report 6.5 x 47 - 4500 fps possible?

Went to the range today. with lighter loads I was getting around 3,000 fps with hot loads as much as 4500 fps. Can I believe the Chrony or is it lying to me?

Time to buy a new chrono?

What bullet weights? Regardless, i would say not a chance.

what weight projectile? if you have a special projectile under 50gr you would still never get 4500fps try placing the chrony back further in case you are getting muzzle blast interupting your readings and if that does not work throw it away as there is now way you are getting 4500fps from a 6.5X47 and depending on the projectile weight 3000fps is also very high with the cartrige.

no way, the few guys who load for f-class consider 3300 fps hot loads.that is with the 120grns. So I believe that is a chrono error, although what was your loads?

was using 100 bergers and lapuas, 108 lapuas and 123 lapuas.

results were pretty consistent above 4,000 fps with the 100s.

My chrony was about 10 feet in front of the gun and I have a muzzle brake.

What chronograph do you have. I got an alpha and it showed my .243 at 5800+ fps so needless to say I cam chalk that up as an $86 loss.

which powder and how many grains? but it sounds awfully fast, try a friends chrono.

Chrono error. My 6.5X47 is accurate at 2600-2800 fps. Anything much over that and you will start banging out primers.........

I ran my 6.5x47 up to almost 3500fps with the 95 vmax's just to push the case a little on a varmint load. But thats about as far as I had dared to push it. SO I agree with the above, your chrono may have spit the bits.

How far away from the muzzle was the chrono?

4500 fps sounds a bit too good to be true than. I would seriously consider getting a new chrono then.

Put on your shooting glasses, take out ye olde' scatter gun and send that chrony back to the firey chasm from wence it came!
