Hey Guys,

Will have my 6.5 x47 Lapua finished up shortly. Anyone care to share their favorite loads for the 123 Hornady or the 130 Berger. Thanks in advance.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

Dibbs,

Thanks for the links and your load. I have a ton of Varget for other cartridges that I shoot. Good to know I can probably put it to use.

Regards, Paul

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

My pet load is 130 VLD with 37gr of Varget and a cci 41 primer.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

40.9 H4350 CCI benchrest primer topped with a 123 Lapua same hole at 100 if you do your part. Boots barrel 25 inches runs about 2900 fps.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

130gr JLK (a mirror of the Berger 130, but with a tighter meplat for a better BC)
CCI BR4
41.7gr H4350
2.850" OAL

Bugholes and 2925fps from my 26" 8 twist Hart.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

H4350 @ 41.3gr
col 2.790ish
wolf LR
berger 130
2840ish
This is the middle node for this load, not very fast but very accurate.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

h4350 41.2gr with a berger 130vld on the lands and cci 450 primers.
2870fps no pressure, in a node. 26" Bartlein barreled Badger action throated for the bergers 1-8.5 twist. I can easily get it to 2960ish but it shoots better a little lower.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

I've noticed that most guys are shooting with H4350 in 6.5x47. Sorry if its a dumb question, but why is this the case? In your experiences does H4350 do better than Varget, RL15, etc? I just ran out of RL-15 and am up in the air about which to use next. RL-15 is a little harder to come by in my neck of the woods so switching is not out of the question.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

123gr SMK with 37.3gr of RL-15 and CCI 450 primers. Shilen ratchet barrel (26") = .23 MOA

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

I played around with some 123's in my last 6.5x47and 39 grains of RL-15 was a hammer. I didn't really ever shot it much because I don't like RE-15 but it was a fun load.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

In my experience RL15 is very temp sensitive. H4350 is part of the Extreme series of powders by Hodgdon. Very stable in temp fluctuations IMHO. Hope this helps.

I'm using 37.6 Varget/CCI 450/130 berger @ ~2850. Not a screaming fast load, but shoots purty darn good.

This thread is kind of a pain in the neck to route through. I've been through all of the pages and there is only a little data there for the 6.5x47.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

If I were using the reamer that you plan to use I would start with 36.5 grains of Varget, a CCI 450 primer and a 130 berger about .010" off of the lands. If you have done your job as you usally do that should give you a 1/2 minute starting load. Increasing the charge could tighten it up a bit. A velocity of 2850-2890 seems to be the sweet spot.

Then again what would I know about it.

I haven't had that experience - but I'll keep that in ind should I discover that is true...

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

im very interested to see more loads comparing Varget and H4350. R15 seemed to be the go to for this round, but I hate the temp instability of the Reloader 15. I plan on using Varget and the heavier Berger VLDs, Amax, Scenars, and cauterucio's.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

Varget is about as stable as they come. Shoot it in my 6BR and 6 Dasher. Shoots bug holes.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

123gr MatchKing
41.2gr H4350
CCI 450 primer
.288 neck

130gr Berger VLD
40gr H4350
CCI 450 primer
OAL 2.80
.288 neck

I have worked up loads with varget, but found h4350 to be more consistent. Never tried RL15.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

130 JLK (130 Berger shoots with this load too)
37.2gr Varget
CCI 450
touching to .005 jam
.289 neck

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

JLK 130gr.
VV N150 37.0gr.
.005 off
2950fps out of a 30in. bartlein.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

130 VLD
38.1 gr. Varget
CCI BR4 primer

Velocity 2825 ftps ES 9 (5 shots)
25 inch Krieger (8.5 twist)
Very accurate load in my gun.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

123 lapua touching
38.8 RL15
CCI450

Velocity 2940
26 Bartlein 1/8.5
accurate, best so far in my Jon Beanland built

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

37.5 of Ramshot Big Game
130 Berger ws2 coated
.015 into the lands

Run this one in my br rifle with a 30" Krieger, has also done very well in each of the other 3 rifles in this caliber I've built. .3's were typical.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

130 JLK over 41.7 grns. H4350. CCI 450 primers

Shoots really well. Krieger barrel, 26.5 inches.

Drives tacks for sure

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

130 Burgers, 38.4 varget with a 5k jam=2950 & bug holes!
29 kreager8.5 I have not come close with 4350???

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

37.2 grains of Re 15 behind a 123 grain Scenar. Ignited with a CCI BR2 primer. Gives me 2,798 ft/sec from a 23" barrel. I found Re 15 gave better velocities than Ramshot's Big Game & Hunter and IMR 4007. Settled on that load and didn't try any H4350, although I've got it on my shelf. It ain't broken, so I haven't fixed it.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

41.0 H4350 in 300 Savage reformed brass, Fed 210 std rifle primer, 123 Hornaday Amax. .288 bushing in Redding dies, .002 or better runout. 2850 at 97d in 25" Kreiger barrel. .4-.5" for 5 rounds easily, if I do my share. No pressure signs at all. .005 off lands.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

are you guys noticing any difference when using the BR4 primers vs the 450's?

No difference at all, or if there is one, I could not see it either down range or on the chrono. 450's were a bit faster MVs I guess but we are talking less than 10fps. ES and SD was about the same. This of course could vary depending on lot, temps and the phase of the moon (use 450's when the moon is Gibbous, and BR4's when its cresent

LOL)

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

40.4 H4350
140 VLD @2800 and it is flat out hammers.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

Don't go yelling at me for the compressed load, but I shoot a 140 grain bergers in mine with 41.5 grains of H4350 at 2800fps. Holy crap it is accurate and no pressure signs whatsoever. Shot 140 rounds over 3 days with that load about a month ago, not one problem.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

Paul,
Try VV N540 or N 550, it will give speed when others will not. H 4350 did nothing but presure up in my guns, no velocity.
It is expensive though!!

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

38.1 gr RE 15, 123 scenar @.010 off the lands, 2.720 Coal, 3000ish fps. 41.6 gr H4350, 130jlk and .010 off the lands gets me 2940 out of 28" tube. CCI 450 for both loads. Temp sensitivity is good, remember that re15 is what the military uses in M118lr ammo.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

37.4 grs. RE15
123 scenar
BR4 primers

2913 fps

12 reloads on same brass
*FL size only

I am going to be working up a load for the 139 scenars later this month.

Re: 6.5 x 47 favorite load?

My barrel is 26''. Until about 2500 rounds I ran 41.7 H4350 with 130 JLK 15 in at 2850 FPS and it shot great. For about the past 500 I switched to 41.3 H4350 with 140 JLK 5 in at 2780 FPS and it has shot great as well. It's really hard to make this caliber shoot bad as I have never shot a load through mine (throughout all of my load workups) that wasn't under half MOA.
